2 cents- on the debate

The first 30 minutes will be everything. The President will re-establish himself as President and Romney has to introduce himself to the audience.

The President has to stay above the fray which his office allows him to do.
I would work "100%" into the early part of the debate.

Romney has to open big with his personality and create a cliffhanger for people to watch the next two debates.
He has to be SHOWTIME.

The questions are supposed to be about domestic policy so Romney will declare failure and The President needs to introduce his accomplishments to the audience (because they are rarely noted in the press).

If Lehrer mentions the national parks system Romney is going to be in real trouble.

Obama is cool under pressure. But he's not a great debater. Good thing is, neither is Romney. Honeycombe8 Oct 2012 #3

Why? No matter how good the economy would be, the "liberally-biased media" will still stick a microphone and camera in some Republicans' face (you can find plenty of well-paid "disappointed Obama voters" hanging around, just looking to be famous) and the Republican will say "Obama hasn't done enough."

Never mind that the Republicans were predicting things along the line of the Dow probably hitting zero (and, in the 30 or so days after the 2012 election, the Dow's performance was key, up-Bush's credit, down-Gore's fault; until 12/13/2000, when it decided on a direction - down), that gas would blow past $5 a gallon on the way to bankrupting the country, and every Republican taking a pledge to do everything in their power to block everything Obama tried that wasn't a tax cut for the wealthy.

I think Romney has the advantage. One reason is, the media wants Romney to do well, to keep the race as close as possible. He's also the underdog.

Also, because people assume Obama will be great, forgetting that he's a great orator, but not a great debater.

because his MO is the more you know about him the less you like him. Basically it's a debate between a guy that has been president for 4 years and a man who's been running for president for 6 years. Everyone but the really low information voters know everything about these two people. So I can't see the point of these debates other than to see who scrapes up the low information voters this week in the flash polls. I mean zero people at work have even talked about the debates. This election cycle seems over for most people, but those low information types

...first of all, mitt romney always comes across as a little shit when he tries to be funny. He won't know this because he is constantly surrounded by a gaggle of very well paid yes men whose incomes depend on them giving all glory to mitt's "genius".

For me, the ultimate "little shit" romney moment was the $10,000 bet offer to rick perry. Did you notice th look of GREED on his face at the moment. He could have salvaged it if he'd only said something like "...payable to a charity of your choice", but he had that "sure thing" look on his face that you might have if you'd offered someone on the result of a tennis match between me and Victoria Azarenka (my favorite player) with them having to take ME in the bet!

Secondly, while the press is touting that the challenger is always elevated in a debate by simply being on stage with a President, let's not forget that in the first Carter/Ford debate in 1976, Jimmy Carter had a brief moment of nerves at the beginning of the debate that led to a Ford victory in the polls of the following 2 or 3 days. Carter himself later admitted that it was due to being momentarily intimidated by being on stage with the President of the United States.

That's my 2 cents, and quite possibly overpriced at that!

PEACE!
