(36,286 posts)I thought "where's the beef?" was Reagan's line. Mondale used it on Gary Hart during the primaries.

(6,537 posts)This adorable little old lady with a raspy voice would go to get a burger and look in the bun, then say
"Where's the beef". Then she'd go to Wendy's. It was funny the first four thousand times, but then became pretty irritating.

According to a highly reliable source, as Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama prepare for the first presidential debate Wednesday night, top Republican operatives are primed to unleash a new two-pronged offensive that will attack Obama as weak on national security, and will be based, in part, on new intelligence information regarding the attacks in Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens on Sept. 11.
The source, who has firsthand knowledge of private, high-level conversations in the Romney camp that took place in Washington, D.C., last week, said that at various times the GOP strategists referred to their new operation as the Jimmy Carter Strategy or the October Surprise.
He added that they planned to release what they hoped would be a bombshell that would make Libya and Obamas foreign policy a major issue in the campaign. My understanding is that they have come up with evidence that the Obama administration had positive intelligence that there was going to be a terrorist attack on the intelligence.

(11,464 posts)Jimmy haters already are Romney voters and if it wasn't for sabatoge and illegal doings,
Jimmy would have won re-election.
And its another back to the past for Romney, whereas Obama goes forward.
Alot of people actually remember- the first 1/2 of Jimmy's presidency was one of the best times in America in recent history. It was the last 1/2 where the problems started and Jimmy was close.
In actuality, had Ted Kennedy not run(of all the times for him not to run, 1980 was it) and I love Ted Kennedy, but it should have/could have been 1972, 1976, 1984, 1988, 1992 1996, etc. and not 1980.
The fracture in the party ended up hurting the most (though most dems will deny it).
But President Obama is not Jimmy Carter, John Kerry or Al Gore.
President Obama, besides being already one of the top 5 presidents of all time, is also singlehandedly the smartest politician president and is not Jimmy Carter.
The October / Nov. surprise will be how many more electoral votes President Obama gets in 2012(way way way over 300, maybe alot more)
(I still have hopes Obama ends up winning Texas this year and it is found the women's vote in Texas was so much higher than anyone thought.

(14,275 posts)They key to a successful surprise is to not announce what you are going to do before you do it. Doing that tends to eliminate they key element of a surprise.
