Tom Brokaw on Morning Joe: "Americans just want their Medicare check."

He get's the "most disgusting" award today. That guy just characterized the American voter as just takers who don't want anything taken away from them. And of course Scab just agreed with him and started hammering how much SS, Medicare and Medicaid is costing...

Just for your information, creeps, I'm on Medicare and I don't get a "check." What universe are you in? Medicare insures me, it doesn't send me a check. I DO send a check each month for my Medicare supplementary plan, to pay for the 20% that Medicare doesn't cover both in Part B and D. That and what is taken out of my SS check are my contribution. And my share keeps going up, while I am a retiree on a fixed income. I am not complaining. You should STFU...

but yes, you are right there are people with high IQs who may not have a high school or college degree. Problem is in today's world vs when Peter Jennings (he's the one without the degree) or even Tom started, a high IQ without a degree (or a hell of a lot of luck) means diddly.

In fact, these high paid newsreaders don't realize how much of where they are in this life is luck since we are all born naked and needy.

I never liked Brokaw because he seemed to be a key force in turning news into entertainment - cotton candy rather than anything sustaining. He really is showing his colors here. The good thing is that what it would seem to reflect is his frustration that people actually are NOT following people like him, but actually considering their own needs and values.

One - so far - good thing this year is that it appears that billions of dollars in ads have been rejected by people. It also seems that in the places they are most prevalent, Obama is MORE ahead than in places - versus where the race was originally considered to be - where they are not played.

I watch Bill Press and Stephanie Miller on Current TV. MSNBC only sucks a little bit less than Faux and CNN. LINK TV and Free Speech TV (FSTV) are other better alternatives. The so called main stream media is owned and operated by corporate interests. Don't encourage them by watching and commenting on their propaganda and their bullshit. There are a couple of MSNBC commentators who still have integrity; Ed Schultz and Rachael Maddow are worth watching.

Been saying this often. Leave Joe "Dead Intern" Scum off and go to Bill and Stephanie. I have to pay extra to get Current and LinkTV, but it is sure worth it for the much better news coverage. Even MSNBC sucks at times at night, although Rachel is quite good. Big Ed just rants and raves and that has its place, but its gets tiresome after awhile. While Steve Kornacki is adorable, he seems to be heading the same direction as Brokaw. And "C" Cupp is an absolute twit. Cenk is good and does some investigative stuff, but he was also very conservative for a while and needs to be taken with a grain of salt from time to time. Spitzer, my much-maligned former governor is absolutely terrific when it comes to Wall street shenanigans and the economy. And, the series, "Borgen", the Danish "West Wing", is addictive.

and yes, what many dumb asses don't realize is that Medicare is not free, it still costs, and you still have to pay for supplemental and medicine as you pointed out

The problem is how many are the uninformed public who believe this garbage?

This was in the context of one of Scab's favorite talking points: that we can't sustain all these entitlements, Medicare is in serious trouble, American seniors are greedy, yadda, yadda.

Usually I just roll my eyes but today that statement just jumped out at me. It was so ODD!

I think the guy is unsteady on his feet. He was sitting during the intro to his segment, which I thought was a bit unusual (guests are usually standing), then after commercial he was already seated at the panel desk. My guess is that he was helped onto the set...

How about we cut the bloated Defense Budget and Homeland Security in half - to about $500 billion per year - and take those savings for Medicare and food stamps? We would still have the most expensive military in the world. And there would be no problem with Medicare or Medicaid. It's all a matter of priorities - not a shortage of money.

It is the part of the show, that is repeated in the third hour, so Rmoney gets a double plug .I wonder if he calls RNC before his show.
As far as Brokaw he is losing his gravitas or weight with progressives, he is part of 1%. I know this off topic but the more serious issue on Morning Joe is the free pass to plug Rmoney and misrepresent Obama with impunity.

First of all, we don't get Medicare checks; it's a healthcare program that we -- the beneficiaries who PAID INTO the program all our working lives -- benefit from when we get medical services after we're no longer able to work.

He must be referring to our SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS that we ALSO PAID INTO all our working lives for our RETIREMENT.

Secondly, Tom Brokaw is extremely LUCKY that he was able to work as any type of news reader during the time of Walter Cronkite. His LISP & broken enunciation was not worth the MILLIONS he was paid on a yearly basis. Despite the fact that Brokaw evidently knew someone who could help him get an edge over more qualified or more worthy news readers, he's on a high horse as a one-percenter & now feels like "I've got MINE; I can look DOWN on everyone beneath me." He could care less about those who actually had to work HARD to make sure Tom Brokaw could have smooth roads to be chauffered around in, including the bridges; a fancy house to live in; all his fancy meals & evenings out; his expensive clothes; his expensive haircuts; & all the other services that were provided to him on a daily basis.

Tom Brokaw has been OVER-EMPLOYED in his field, considering the limitations of his talent. And now I'm convinced that he is also unaware of his lack of substance in comparison to those who actually work HARD to make life pleasant for him.

One thing good that has come of this "class" debate is that, with all the discussion going on, it's easier to detect who the real creeps are, & Tom Brokaw is one of them.

a disgusting POS. Totally out of touch and condescending to boot. When I took care of my elderly father before he passed away, I learned to appreciate Medicare and Social Security not only for what they helped to provide but also for the fact that it was an investment for all the years he had worked (since age 15).

I also knew that it was not enough and had he only had Medicare A&B without his supplemental insurance, those 3 hospitalizations during the last year of his life would have been financially devastating.

Brokejaw seems to be condemning the very generation he called the greatest. I guess they were great when he was making money off of his book sales. Now they are just among his and Mitt's 47%. Fuck 'em both.
