Sherrod Brown runs in Ohio as unabashed liberal

The formula was supposed to be something like this for swing-state Democratic senators: Ditch Obama, tack to the center, fight for your political life in 2012.

But Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown has tossed the conventional rulebook in the trash. He’s running as a consistent, unapologetic liberal who promotes “Obamacare” and is as pro-union as they come.

And thanks, in part, to a weaker-than-expected opponent, it seems to be Brown’s race to lose.

Brown stands alone as the last Democratic statewide elected official in Ohio. The state’s Republican turn in 2010 set the tone for Brown’s 2012 race, and before his opponent was even named, conservative groups saw the senator as a prime target. The race has become one of the most expensive in the country, and outside groups backing Ohio state Treasurer Josh Mandel, who’s running against Brown, are outspending groups backing the senator by around 5 to 1.

Ohio having been wrecked by a loss of manufacturing jobs.. Brown is one of the few senators to propose "Fair Trade" reforms as proposed by US Rep. Michaud of Maine..Something that should resonate in Ohio...? But sure to catch the attention of Karl Rove.... Michaud also being targeted by those 'free trade' types who have given away the farm for their own cheap labor profits. You can count on the fact, the US Chamber of Commerce will take opponents of Free Trade as their top targets.. Being that the US Chamber no longer supports competition among Big Business and favors the monopolists and out -sources.

Few know that Sherrod turned down the congressional health care while so many did not have coverage.

We are working very hard to get him reelected.

LIBERAL being a "dirty" word. I sure would look forward to it. I am a little tired of the "progressive" moniker.

The left wanted "Medicare for All" or "Public Option" (if not out and out Single Payer) instead of Obamacare; the left does not generally approve of the administration's generally hawkish-leaning foreign policy or its largely Bush-consistent positions on civil liberties; the left doesn't like how cozy the administration has been with banking interests; the left feels there was too much bailout and not enough stimulus.

The only way a democrat can ditch Obama is to run to the left, or switch parties.
