Romney Camp Pushes Dueling Messages Ahead Of Debate

Romney Camp Pushes Dueling Messages Ahead Of Debate

Sahil Kapur

On the Sunday talk shows, Team Romney sent conflicting messages about the upcoming presidential debate on Wednesday night, both downplaying the debate’s importance and promising a stellar performance by Mitt Romney that will reshape the race.

The campaign’s dueling narratives show the tricky place the Romney campaign finds itself in; Romney needs to show he can turn the race around, but also needs to avoid the dangers of setting the bar too high.

On “Fox News Sunday,” vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan portrayed Obama as a seasoned debater and Romney as the underdog newcomer.

But on three separate Sunday shows, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), a top Romney surrogate, promised an excellent performance that would reset the race.

Reminds me of the period leading up to Mitt's overseas misadventure.

I sure haven't figured it out.

Obama is too cool-headed to get trampled by the likes of a nervous Romney. And, he is nervous.

Ryan is a lost cause. He lies so much, even he doesn't remember the truth. In LaLa land, everything is topsy-turvy.

THEY will be the ones controlling the questions, allowing the lies, attacking the President, propping up Rmoney, and stoking the audience into cheers for Rmoney's fake "zingers".

I remember back during the rethug debates and the cheering sections went wild until it was Brian Williams' turn as a moderator, and he finally put his foot down, much to Froggy Newt's chagrin. I.e., Newt was muzzled and fell flat. Come that next debate, the cheer sections were back, thanks to the moderators at the remaining debates.

I can't trust Creepy Crawly and Bob Shitffer as far as I can throw them and Lehrer is a tossup.

You can bet your bottom dollar the media will be putting Obama under a microscope, looking for any justification to spin the story against him (a sigh, a "wrong" look, you name it). Meanwhile, Romney will get a free pass to lie with impudence.

Luckily the Obama campaign has been incredibly well run, and I do have faith in their ability to counter the Romney and media bullshit.

He's got his own future ambitions to worry about. Wasn't Christie the one who barely mentioned Romney's name when he was keynote speaker at the RNC?
