what with all the warring factions, but the biggest problem I have with him is that he just doesn't get the millions of New Yorkers who can't handle the price of living there.

I lived in a really nice studio downtown for $500 a month in the '80s. That was sold for a few hundred thousand with another grand or so maintenance on top of the mortgage. Reiss brothers, who own damn near all the fast food joints in Manhattan, don't have to honor corporate coupons, prices, or anything else. Rents, corporate and residential, rise with almost no controls.

It just goes on and on...

But, compared to that miserable prick Giuliani, he's a godsend.

Bloomberg is a strange one. On some issues I agree and on some I don't. He's literally IMHO about 50/50. But it's more like 60% asshole 40% ok dude.

Like another poster said, compared to Giuliani he's great. But we can do much better.

so it doesn't matter what I think of him. But since you asked! I think the soda ban thing was silly. I felt better about it once I found out it didn't include diet drinks.

He's increasing business a lot in NY, isn't he? That's good, right?

He keeps getting elected, so NY must like him.

However, he is an asshole and totally unlikeable. And he has that authoritarian streak - see 2004 RNC and Occupy.

He is extremely supportive of gay marriage.
100% correct on the ground zero "mosque."
He was actually more tolerant on OWS than many Democratic mayors across the country - though NYC being the center of OWS, he gets more criticism for this.

He is a bit controlling on education. I don't know how to fix NYC schools though. He must have thought he could naively do a better job.

He is definitely Manhattan-centric so the other boroughs maybe feel left put sometimes.

Rents have skyrocketed. A two bedroom in a decent building in Manhattan is $5000-$7500 per month. This could be a function of cleaning up Time Square, expelling the streetwalkers, removing the open drug dealers, and pushing the homeless to other locations - ie the neighborhoods became much more desirable.

I live in Manhattan - I admit I am ok with BBG.

I had 30 inches fall on my block. the next day the mayor went to the bar down the block, and a group of us took our shovels and baged on the window and complained about the lack of cleanup. He refuse to talk and it took 4 days till we got help.

That was a screwup on his part.

On the flip side, he did learn from his mistake and prepared very well for Hurricane Irene. He was very much all over that.

It seems he's good with most social issues, but on other issues he acts like a typical billionaire. He's strange, sometimes he acts like an awesome Liberal activist & sometimes he acts like a republican douche.

He also ended smoking in bars and restaurants - people bitched at the time, but now nobody complains. It is nice to come hone without your clothes smelling like an ashtray - not to mention how nice it is not to breathe other people's cancer.

On the one hand, he deserves a lot of credit for some really good things - then he goes and fucks it up with a couple really bad things. Hard to reconcile sometimes. That said, I am not sure if this makes him much different than other mayors of NYC in my lifetime.
