Thanks to Mitt Romney...erm, sort of...
For those not familiar:
The Latter Day Saints, according to the prophecy, would "go to the Rocky Mountains and ... be a great and mighty people", identified figuratively with the White Horse described in the Revelation of John. The prophecy further predicts that the United States Constitution will one day "hang like a thread" and will be saved "by the efforts of the White Horse"

With Romney securing the GOP candidacy, speculation spread that Mitt was the Mormon candidate that would "save" the constitution. The ironic thing is that this may actually be happening, just not as many conservatives may have anticipated.
The greatest threat to the constitution in our time is the Citizen's United Ruling. Romney is the poster boy for the ruling, (in)famously stating "Corporations are people, my friend." He is the corporate candidate, and represents all that is disliked about the Citizen's United ruling - unlimited corporate donations, the possibility of foreign economic interests influencing American politics, and the creeping corporatocracy of American democracy.
Yet, instead of being a champion, Mitt has been a chump. His is perhaps the worst run campaign I've seen in my 50 years, and his gaffes and callousness is affecting Republican candidates down ticket, in both the House and the Senate. What started this year as a tight race for the Presidency, and a challenge to the Democratic control of the Senate, now looks like a big win for Obama, a secure majority in the Senate, and a possible narrow Dem majority in the House! We're talking an anti-Republican, anti-corporate mandate, if the current trend holds through to November.
Of course, with such a mandate, expect a Democratic run at a constitutional amendment overturning Citizen's United - and it will be due to the influence of Mr. Mitt Romney.
Right now, the prophecy looks to be true! The Mormon candidate may very well save our Constitution!
Sort of...

bullied him and chopped off his hair.
The man went on to be a top rider of Lipizzaner stallions.

(12,272 posts)9. More like the Red-nosed Reindeer prophecy
Latter Day Saint movement founder Joseph Smith went to Washington D.C. in November 1839 in an unsuccessful attempt to obtain help for his persecuted followers.[6] Pat Bagley of the Salt Lake Tribune writes that from then on, Smith and his followers "considered themselves the last Real Americans" and "the legitimate heirs of the pilgrims and Founding Fathers", who would be called upon one day to save the US Constitution.[7] Smith is believed to have then said, in 1840, that when the Constitution hung by a thread, Latter Day Saint elders would step in on the proverbial white horse to save the country.[7]

But instead of Christmas, the white horse saves the country, and instead going down in history, Mormons go on to lead the US in a theocracy.
