Americans have paid more attention to sports fraud in 2 days than election fraud in 8 years.

(Via Americans Against the Tea Party)

So over the past 2 days there has been non stop buzz over the controversial touchdown call that decided Monday night's Packers/Seahawks football game, an obvious case of incompetency that awarded a false victory. Outrage filled Twitter and Facebook feeds nationwide. But where was the outrage over the calculated, strategic moves that swung elections in favor of Republicans over the past 8 years (even earlier?) Scott Walker, the Republican governor of Wisconsin who called for the return of the unionized NFL referees in response to the Packers' loss, possibly won the recall this year due to voting machine fraud. You wouldn't know that from watching ABC, CBS, NBC, or CNN, you'd need to listen to progressive talk radio or NPR or Democracy Now to know the behind the scenes schenanigans like Diebold voting machines. Thom Hartmann had this commentary on July 13 about voting machines possibly giving Scott Walker some ghost votes as there were discrepancies between the results and exit polls:

By the way, even LOU DOBBS has expressed concern over electronic voting machines! He did an in depth report on CNN in 2006 about EVM. From my search of LexisNexis, the last time the corporate media raised a fuss about EVM was near the 2006 elections, around the time the HBO documentary Hacking Democracy came out and Congress held hearings on the topic (see for instance this report from the 9/28/06 CBS Evening News).

Thom Hartmann has also mentioned that when Howard Dean guest hosted a show on CNBC, Dean demonstrated how easy it is to hack a voting machine. I downloaded the video from this website and will upload to youtube soon. (ETA: Video is at the V&M board)

Our votes are counted by computers.

That bears repeating:
Our votes are counted by computers.

But computers don't lie, so why don't people trust the count?
