As we've been talking about the bill we're supporting to bring call center jobs back to the U.S., a lot of policy makers and hill staffers have asked us who would want "those" jobs. I think that often people who've grown up in so-called creative-class communities don't understand that working class jobs can be good jobs, especially if the workers have collective bargaining rights. They don't understand the sense of community at places like call centers, and how much satisfaction there is in knowing that most of the time you are helping other people out by solving their customer service issues.

We've got a video that addresses that gap in understanding, featuring some great CWA call center workers whose jobs were brought back to the US through agreements that CWA members negotiated.

that the HUGE mail order and "home shopping" businesses in the U.S. employed tens of thousands at call centers right here in the U.S. Then all of that, along with the bank/credit card, computer support, and telephone "customer service" jobs started getting moved overseas. It's just sad.
