Somebody told me he knew several Trump voters who are intelligent and well educated (and wealthy).
Here is my response to that:
If a segment of Trump voters are well educated and intelligent, they simply have a different set of values.
They don't value the checks & balances in our Constitution or the principle that the rule of law applies to everyone.
They don't value truth or accountability in our nation's leaders.
They don't value the sanctity of our elections and enfranchisement of all voters.
They don't value the ideal that all men (and women) are created with equal rights, deserving equal treatment under the law.
They don't value our alliance with other Western democracies, which has been a bulwark against tyranny for generations.
They don't value the lives of nearly 200,000 Americans who've died needlessly in this pandemic, or the lives of those who will die for lack of adequate health insurance.
They don't value the lives of children who will be born with birth defects and countless others whose lives will be shortened by increased toxins in our land, water, and air.
They don't value the natural beauty of Earth with its diverse ecosystems and plant & animal life.
They don't value future generations who will be left with depleted resources and a despoiled planet, ravaged by catastrophic climate change.
Other than all that, I'm sure they are very fine people.

The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of who will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesnt even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it.
