Poll: NJ getting bluer while Christie hits NH

Poll: NJ getting bluer while Christie hits NH

by Herb Jackson

On the day Governor Christie goes to another swing state to help a fellow Republican running for governor, a new poll shows New Jersey’s streak of voting Democratic for federal officials does not seem likely to change this year.

President Obama and Sen. Robert Menendez have widened their leads among likely voters over the past two months, while Mitt Romney’s personal ratings dropped markedly and Republican Senate nominee Joe Kyrillos remains largely unknown, according to the Monmouth University/Asbury Park Press poll published today.

<...>

The poll found Obama leading Romney 52 percent to 37 percent, compared with a 50-42 lead in July. Among independents, a 44-42 Obama-Romney split in July became a 50-30 lead in the latest poll, taken Sept. 19-23.

<...>

Christie, who told several state delegations at the Republican National Convention last month that Romney cannot win New Jersey, is headed to New Hampshire today to campaign for the Republican candidate for governor. He also spent the end of last week and the weekend at rallies and fund-raisers for a Congressman in Iowa; the Republican House caucus in Washington, D.C.; the governor of Utah; and the gubernatorial candidate in Missouri.
