He will have his 'index cards'.
Maybe not actually on the podium, but in his mind.
Memorized responses to expected questions.
Which he will try to reel off.
He will get through index card #1.
Maybe #2.
And then there will be a question, or maybe a rebuttal by Obama, and suddenly he'll be 'off script'.
He does not do well off script.
It won't be pretty.

(21,642 posts)doesn't map to the question at all. Sort of like saying, "I believe in America," when asked a question about the economy.

(10,419 posts)He could barely contain his sheer disgust at the idiocy that is Sir Rmoney.
Actually, he didn't contain it - he let Mittens have it both barrels.

(33,688 posts)tore off that Hedgecock asshole's arm and beat him to death with it. His disgust with the Repigs oozed from every word he spoke. I've never seen Matthews better.

(33,688 posts)on a visceral level could hardly be more obvious. It's personal with him because of the Repigs' sneering dismissal of Jimmy Carter. Matthews was a speechwriter for Carter back in the day.

(31,706 posts)Image will mean more than anything Bishop Willard has to say. If he stutters or looks flustered...that will work against him and all but put a nail in his electoral coffin. I don't think that's gonna happen. Remember, he has been in about 20 debates over the past year while President Obama hasn't had to do this in 4 years. It's about being comfortable and in command on the stage...any awkward movements or gestures get amplified while looking "cool" always gains points. This is where I believe President Obama has an overwhelming advantage over Mittens. Let him have his index cards and talking points but willard doesn't go off script well. On the other hand President Obama is always in command of facts and the "tempo" of the room...the Bishop will have to knock him off that game and that's yet another tall order I expect willard will fail at.

Since that's about settled, how are we doing in the House and Senate races?
