running for re-election.
I may have missed it , but I'm not seeing it now. In fact, McConnell, Trump, Barr, and countless others seem to be proceeding with total non-chalance, not even breaking a sweat about Election Day. And doing and saying even WORSE things than they've ever done. QAnon, conspiracy theories, racism running amok. Trump can't even be bothered to prepare for the sham "debate"...because he knows it's meaningless???
Something's up.
And before you flame me, I'll just say that I have never voted anything but Democratic in my life, and I cast my first vote in 1970.
The problem with being around that long is having to watch so many GREAT democratic candidates go down, Gore, Kerry, Hillary, to all sorts of skullduggery. I DON'T WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN!

(21,964 posts)Since 1976, an average of 23 House members have retired each two-year election cycle, according to CQ Roll Call elections analyst Nathan L. Gonzales, the publisher of Inside Elections. In 2019 alone, however, 27 House members announced they will retire, opting not to run for reelection nor for another office (these figures do not include lawmakers who have resigned or died while in office).
More than three times as many Republicans, many of whom are serving in the minority for the first time, decided to retire as Democrats. Twenty-one Republicans are retiring while six Democrats are heading for the exits.

That's from January...

(31,113 posts)I just wish people would instead of BASHiNG and "cough cough" those of us for warning people, would instead talk about it and what is it we can do when he does, etc.
DU goes first when the fascists take over, well not first, Rachel and Lawrence go first...but any place like this, gone...

(3,487 posts)"average" quite a bit, and it confirms my suspicion that far fewer are not running again this year.
"39 Republicans and 18 Democrats are not running for re-election." (in 2018)

(86,765 posts)That's why they are trying to stop mail-in ballots, they need the machines that czarina got patents for to be used so cheating isn't so hard. So what did they do when they realized most would be voting by mail, try to break the USPS.

(15,325 posts)They're damned cock-sure aren't they!
Chilling how far & fast they are re-writing & pushing the fatality of the American Government, it's Constitution & it's ability to fight back.
With rapid pace & tying our legal hands to do more than watch our own fall...
This must be the 'revolution' part that SSSarandon & troops shouted was necessary to bring about..something ..something...
Sick useless fks.

(16,439 posts)Is that many of the GOPers fleeing office were in fact actually fleeing brutal primaries from candidates to the right of their own positions. The 2018 pre primary period was the Great never trumper massacre.
So given what is left are hardcore Trump loving RWNJ types, its no surprise they arent fleeing from certain re-election in safe red districts.
But I guess thats not as interesting as other theories are.

(3,487 posts)the seemingly total " we couldn't care less, we got this" of the GOP at this point.
Highly seasoned politicians rarely TRIPLE DOWN on heinous agendas without feeling some sense of confidence in the outcome.
And that is the mystery to me, and why I posted.

(9,263 posts)number of democrats and the prospects of adding another 15-20 seats to existing totals in the House is real. Could care less what trump or his minions are doing because we OUR JOB to do

Doesn't mean the election is already settled to recognize how they are behaving.

(46,755 posts)James Comey showed them what works. Now Barr is in control. So Biden is going to get hit with a lot of shit.
And then, of course, the mail-in ballots. Trump revealed what is going to happen. Some foreign actors are going to flood the post office with counterfeit mail-in ballots.
That's my best guess.

(32,626 posts)how Manafort passed along to Kilimnik internal polling date with a briefing on four states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota...and how the sharing continued, but no one knew how that data was used. Odd states, aren't they? We know so much, and there's nothing we can do about it, and that does not seem right. There should be something besides waiting and watching. But then we don't know, because this is not then. This is bad.
