Situation with replacement NFL officials has become beyond ridiculous (replacments drive kids too!)

The point being made by unions is when your school bus driver goes on strike, do you really want replacement workers the quality of the replacement NFL refs?

Edit: I need to point out the NFL refs are not on strike. They were locked out.

I really didn't want to write about replacement officials again. I don't like writing about officials at all. Normally, complaining about officials is like complaining about traffic cops: Easy to do, but not really fair to them.

But I watched the Ravens-Patriots game Sunday night, and I mean this sincerely: I have no idea what the score would have been with the real refs. It could have been 38-31 Patriots or 24-20 Ravens or 27-all heading into overtime ... I mean, I have no idea.

The replacement refs were particularly awful -- for both sides -- in Sunday night's Ravens-Patriots game.

I could go through all the mistakes the officials made, but that would diminish the point, like if a friend went on a cruise and said the chicken was overcooked and the sheets were dirty and there was no soap anywhere, and you would say "Gosh, that's annoying," when the real problem was that everybody drowned.

This game was chaos. The replacement officials called 24 penalties on the two teams and still had no control of the game. They missed calls they should have made, called penalties that didn't occur and didn't seem to understand the rules. NBC's Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth were openly begging for the old officials.

the NHL is up next.

Last year it was the lockout of the football players, this year the refs, next year the concessionaires.

No wonder ticket sales are off.

And the officials just seem to not have the authority over the game they should have. That is a very nuanced thing that I had no idea existed until it was gone.

They seem to catch the tiniest incidents of holding, but not notice the facemasks, horse-collaring, and really hard late hits.

Scab refs have done the same thing to football as the 1000-foot track did to drag racing.

Romo was sacked and fumbled, Bucs returned fumble for TD. Except refs ruled it an incomplete pass. Bucs challenged, ruling on field was overturned- sack and fumble. Except on a successful challenge the ball can't be advanced from the spot of fumble, so TD didn't count. Bucs ended up punting. Now, the Bucs lost b/c their offense totally sucked, but the final score was 16-10, so the fumble return for a TD would have been the deciding score.

And yes, there are many bs calls, while horsecollars, etc, go uncalled. The regular refs miss calls, too... but the scab refs are really awful.
