(17,988 posts)Am deep in politics. Never heard that.
I did read that Biden is up four points in Ohio.
I might also remind everyone that Ohio gave Obama the electoral vote to be President. That was a happy time for me. If you remember Karl Rove.

It was the most satisfying happy election night I can remember.
True Blue American
(17,988 posts)I jumped right out of my lazy boy, then laughed at Karl Rove. They had to take him back to the election room. He was complaining the votes for northern Ohio were not in. They told him there were not enough to matter. Silly, Northern Ohio is more Democratic than my Southwestern Ohio.
Funny though, Counties all the way down the Ohio river had not voted Democratic for 100 years voted for Obama!
Chili
(1,725 posts)Cuyahoga intentionally held back the count to be the last chunk of votes counted for the state that night. Thrilling! Take THAT Rove, you rat.
And hopefully they'll vote for Biden this time!

(33,019 posts)The urban /rural divide is strong here.
The cities likely will go blue, but the suburbs of Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus are the determiners and why trumpers are pushing the Law & Order and save the suburbs so damn hard

(500 posts)my family originated from Eastern KY in the last century. They came here to escape the coal mines for better paying jobs in steel mills and car manufacturing. The mentality had not changed much until the last 20 years or so. My Dad, born in Knott Co. KY came here for a job at General Motors where he retired from. He was a Union steward and worker's rights advocate but still held a lot of racist and backwoods views. He voted for Trump last election but has now begged me to vote Biden. I guess even 88-year-olds can change with enough impetus.

(1,725 posts)Where are you seeing a lot of those signs? I don't get out of the house much these days - extremely high risk to COVID - but I have yet to see one. I'm working from home now, but on the way to work (25 min drive), I'd know exactly which three houses might have them - they had them for McCain, then Romney. But none of them had trump signs in '16.
True Blue American
(17,988 posts)Saw 3 Trump signs on tiny, rural houses.

He is one Senator that never fails to answer emails personally. He follows in the footsteps of John Glenn.

[Okay, I'd have a little beach hut on Maui for a few weeks a year, but I'd still live here. ]
But those rural counties are where we look so red - it's an ugly map out there.

(7,800 posts)WONDERFUL people, both!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sherrod is the quintessential public servant. Connie is hysterically funny.
Chili
(1,725 posts)Sherrod is so into the people - he listens, he cares... couldn't ask for more, 'cept be nice if he had a partner in the Senate. Voinivich, though a repub, was a good man. He was actually liked as mayor of Cleveland. Had to quit when the ugliness got too much for him. But somehow we haven't unseated Portman yet... gotta happen.
And I remember reading Connie when she used to do movie reviews for the PD. Always liked her.
But lucky you to have such great neighbors!!!

(54,436 posts)OK, sure, it's pretty obvious which way Massachusetts and Oklahoma will go, but states like Ohio, PA, NC, IA, WI, Florida, even Georgia and Texas shouldn't be written off (or counted as sure for us). All these years later, Howard was still right. We need a 50 state strategy.
Chili
(1,725 posts)YES. Obama had that nailed. Winning caucuses in states rarely visited. He had an intense campaign strategy - which I believe Biden would have, too, now, but COVID knocked out that possibility cold.
True Blue American
(17,988 posts)And you can bet with all the Democrats involved who know how to run elections we are seeing a change.

(443 posts)We have to TAKE the presidency away from Trump and the GOP. We can win Ohio. We have to fight for it tooth and nail. Biden has the war chest. They should blitz Ohio after Florida and really turn the heat up on Trump. Hey Bloomberg. How about dropping $100m on Ohio too.

(15,090 posts)Believe me, I know. But magats can easily get Trump signs at Trump stands, which I think were former fireworks stands.
We have a number of HUGE Trump banners locally here in western PA. I notice theyre still using the Make America Great Again slogan, which is pretty damn funny after almost four years of Trump.

(14,856 posts)"The" is reserved for Ohio State University! Lol, kidding!
Ohio is among several other close states, though, and shouldn't be taken for granted either way.
This NPR map, from a link above in this thread, shows how this election could be infuriatingly close if Biden fares just a bit worse than polling currently indicates in states like FL, AZ, WI, NC, OH and GA (which is polling the worst for Biden among those states).

(15,349 posts)4 years ago, I rarely saw Clinton/Kaine signs, but this year, I'm seeing tons of Biden/Harris signs.
Hell, even in my traditionally "red" area of Canton I'm seeing lots of Biden signs.
Could be folks are shamed and embarrassed, but will still vote for the Dipshit, but I'm sure not seeing the enthusiasm or momentum for the asspickle as I did 4 years ago.

(14,856 posts)The Clintons were especially not liked in Ohio after factory closings and such in the 90's. It wasn't fair, but I've known about it for years and it's why I was so pleased that Obama ran for President in 2008 and he won the nomination.
I supported Hillary Clinton four years ago, of course, but I knew she'd have a big struggle in Ohio.
There's absolutely not the crazy number of Trump signs in my area like in 2016, and I'm taking that as a positive.

(68,643 posts)there was some poisoning of dogs by right wingers in 12 so I don't put signs out.

(238 posts)In 2004 Kerry got 59K votes. In 2008 Obama got 60K votes and won the county. In 2012 Obama got 58K votes. In 2016 Clinton got 46K votes.
Compared to 2012, turn dropped about 4K and 3rd party voting increases by 4K. Trumps numbers were not significantly better than any of other Republicans.
Too many Democrats stayed home or voted third party. We cant see a repeat. Biden needs to get over 60K in Lake County to have a chance in Ohio

Trump barely won in three states last time...and we had the Russian Princess Green POS then...that is not the case now. We have an out of control pandemic and economic chaos...Ohio is hit particularly hard by this...Trump has a minority of support. He never broke 50 ....not ever.

(68,643 posts)idiots, and there are some. However, I have seen Biden signs. But I can tell you the state is in a statistical tie. And since Trump won Ohio by more than in Georgia last year, that is both surprising and significant...so tired of the doom and gloom.
I don't know if we win, but Biden is running many commercials. And I personally have seen the early Trump signs taken down in my area. Try being positive. We are in a much better place than 16 and Trump is going down. Doom and gloom depresses people and the vote. I am voting in person by the way...early voting I want to win on election night.
