(18,633 posts)It's certainly not an idea without merit. If MSNBC continues to pick up steam, Murdock will be forced to rethink his programming schedule. Perhaps he'll woo Alan Colmes back into the Fox family.
Programming has less to do with ideology than ratings, and when money talks Murdock will listen. I guarantee it.

(10,303 posts)I don't think either will come to any acceptable terms for Olbermann to be a personality on *ANY* Fox network, owned and operated by News Corp ... let alone "Fox News".

(8,434 posts)Fox News is not there to generate a profit. They do not care. Fox and Murdock own plenty of other channels and businesses that do create a profit.
As long as Fox continues to influence elections, it will be on the air as is. They don't care how much it costs to keep it in operation. In fact, I'm betting they would go 100% commercial free if they had to. The 1% would keep it alive.

(53,410 posts)People may have really liked her and tuned in to her show after the Convention.

(18,048 posts)I had stayed away from politics from a long time and happened into MSNBC coverage of the conventions. I found out I really like their lineup. Or, at least Rachel, Lawrence O'Donnell and Chris Hayes. Ed and Bashir are ok too.

(45,319 posts)market. FoxNews says they are 'number one in cable news' and that means just that, nothing more. They are not number one in cable, nor in news, nor are they ever number one in any time slot. They are 'number one' in that they beat the other two cable news outlets. Most FoxNews shows draw under a million viewers.
The website the OP links to is very useful for those who want to learn actual viewship on these shows. MSNBC is gaining viewers, not taking them from Fox so much as making new viewers and taking some from Networks and CNN.
The DU meme that 'America gets all it's news from Fox' has never been anything close to true.

(53,410 posts)No one knows why MSNBC does it but Rachel sends all her viewers off to jail as her sign-off comment.

(6,699 posts)she sure brings out the "hate" in the repukkkes. I'm guessing it's primarily that she's a lesbian, and then also that she's not a nasty, snarky, vendictive bitch like you see on fox....so they LOVES to HATE them some Maddow.

(62,416 posts)that FUX is.
Plus on many cable or dish systems MSNBC is not part of the basic package, whereas FUX is.
I pay extra just to get MSNBC.
Therefore the fact that Ed and Rachel are doing so well means that they are being watched by a much higher percentage of potential viewers than FUX.
If you could add in Current numbers (I often watch Spitzer) the numbers would probably be lefties all the way.

(856 posts)Lawrence O'Donnell is also doing great. The Last Word beat Greta in the 24-54 demo 4 days last week, Mon-Thurs.
The Last Word is not on Fridays. Wow, that the Rachel, Ed & Lawrence prime time shows are beating Fox is unbelievable. Keep up the good work!!!

(4,220 posts)Let Ed battle InSannity, let them duke it out, it could be fun to watch. Putting Rachel against Billo, our best rated show versus their best rated show is an awesome idea, it would be be most excellent!!! Wasn't it KO versus Billo, oh so long ago... That worked just fine for me...
That said, I doubt that MSNBC and Phil Griffin will tinker with the schedule they currently have. Look at this thread, the headline is "MSNBC doing great!!!" I doubt they will make any change now and will wait till the post election-- first of the year time frame when things settle down. If they were cool they could/would fine tune things but...
