Gallup -Obama -48% -Romney 46%/Approval/Disapproval 51-42%

http://www.gallup.com/home.aspx?ref=logo

A bit odd that his horse race numbers are three percentage points lower than his approve/disapprove numbers and Romney polls four percentage points higher than the president's disapproval numbers.

At least it takes away a Puke talking point.

for launching an investigation on them for ripping the government off (overcharging fees). Can anyone honestly take Gallup seriously now?

With the 3-day approval average at 51%, the 7-day horse race numbers could very well go up a point or two over the next few days.

As of today there is not one national poll that shows Romney leading or tied, not one.

They (e.g., Drudge) were touting the Gallup poll hard. It was a bad idea to hitch their wagon to a tracking poll, which is typically noisy when looked at as a snapshot of the race. A lot of their supporters (now closely following Gallup) are going to be very disappointed with the numbers for at least the next couple of days.

5. Romney's Problem...

OK. Among Romney's Problems...

His problem with likability is going to be particularly difficult to overcome. His was disliked by 51% of the voters at the end of August, and one can only assume (reasonably) that his likability has not risen during the past three gaffe-filled weeks.

Now that he's trailing and it's almost October, Romney is will have to turn harsh. And all things being equal, Americans typically don't like a candidate who appears nasty and mean-spirited. While negative advertisements early on can "define" a candidate, negative advertisements during the closing weeks just make the other party sound desperate and shrill. In other words, the more negative his campaign rhetoric, the less people are going to like Mitt Romney.

And it really doesn't help Romney that Obama has been subjected to four years of wildly negative commentary from Right Wing Smear Machine (tm). Obama has developed a skin on titanium, and more negative advertising by the Koch Brothers is not likely to do anything but annoy and bore undecided voters. "Oh, that again?" is going to be the likely response.

Voter Suppression is their only hope.
