The reason that I've been hearing that DeJoy and Trump are trying to suppress mail-in voting is that Democrats are more likely to vote by mail than Republicans. That may be true, but I have an additional theory that I haven't heard anyone suggest yet:
Trump and his minions might be planning some sort of late October surprise to be released just before Election Day so that Democrats won't have enough time to counter it. This strategy could work if everyone has to vote on the same day.
But since mail-in voters will be mailing their ballots over a spread-out period well ahead of November 3rd, Trump's last-minute claim won't be effective on them even if they believe him. If they've already mailed their ballots then it will be too late for them to change their votes.
And if Trump releases his bogus claim too soon there will be time to wait and see if it pans out, and if it's successfully discredited that could work against him.
One might argue that if this is true then Trump should also be against in-person early voting, but maybe he can't think of any plausible reason to be against that.
So, could this be one of the reasons that Trump wants to stop mail-in voting? Has anyone heard this suggested already?

(7,968 posts)tRump is just trying for chaos. The more he can mix things up and cast doubts on how things worked the better for him when he starts filling lawsuits to overturn the election.
He's going to claim that the mail in ballots invalidated the election. One of the reasons will be because the mail service didn't function correctly which will likely create lots of situations his lawyers can point to for why the mail in vote and thus the whole election was invalid.

(5,328 posts)- January 20th comes with no elected president, so the Speaker of the House becomes president.
- The new president appoints a vice president (perhaps one with recent experience holding that office).
- The new president resigns (and possibly reclaims her seat in the House of Representatives).
- The vice president becomes president.
- The new president appoints a vice president (perhaps one that he has already chosen for that office).
- Profit!

(7,968 posts)I'm expecting full on shit trip from Nov 3 til Jan 20 and perhaps beyond. I hope I'm wrong. The trouble is people have gamed this out. The problem is tRump has control of the military until Jan 20th.
That is indeed very scary.

(11,294 posts)Dejoy cant stop the mail or slow it down. All they can do is act like they are doing it. That scare works on some still but not many any more like it use to. I have full faith in The United States Postal Service. If you go to the post office ask for a meter postage it has the date on it and in my county they go by postmark not when delivered.

(54,770 posts)days, there is little the PO can do to prevent those ballots from being delivered. Using local drop boxes is even better.
The mail-in scare was just that, a bunch of bunk. Order your ballots early and return them quickly, use a local drop box if possible.

(16,860 posts)Alex Jones to Russian hackers, Trump is all about deception and trickery. I'm sure they're planning a number of things to enhance Trump's chances and scuttle Biden's. For instance, I think he has a few different reasons for having people go into the polls to see if their ballots have been received. For one thing, he wants to cause doubt and anxiety about election day. For another, he wants to gin up anger between precinct-voting Trumpers and mail-voting Democrats. I think the main thing he wants is confusion at the polling places. People will be carrying on about their votes and the process for the whole damned day will be disrupted. Trump's goal is to trip us up at every positive step we make from here on out.
