'A Tale of Sin and Misery Set in a Brothel Suits Him So PerfectlyEric Burdon of the Animals is the latest artist to take issue with Donald Trump using their music without permission for campaign purposes.
On Wednesday, the Animals classic House of the Rising Sun played over the speakers at a Wilmington, North Carolina airport as Air Force One taxied down the runway en route to an appearance there. Video of the scene with the songs usage was later disseminated on social media. The 1964 single had also been played at previous Trump rallies.
Burdon responded to Trumps use of House of the Rising Sun in a pointed statement where the singer both criticized the president and threw his support behind the Biden/Harris ticket.
Even though nobody asked my permission, I wasnt surprised to learn that #Trump #864511320 used #Houseof theRisingSun for his rally the other day, Burdon said in a statement. A tale of sin and misery set in a brothel suits him so perfectly! Far more appropriate for this time in our history might be.

'House of the Rising Sun' is a folk song actually but Eric Burdon's version I guess would be copyrighted.

(115,810 posts)"House of the Rising Sun" is, indeed, "a tale of sin and misery set in a brothel," so it fits Trump, but why would anyone with two functioning brain cells to rub together choose it as a campaign anthem?
"Oh, Mother, tell your children
Not to do what I have done.
Don't spend your life in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun."
Then there's Neil Young and "Rockin' in the Free World," over whose unauthorized use Young is suing Trump; obviously nobody listened to those lyrics either. And many more: https://www.vulture.com/article/the-history-of-musicians-rejecting-donald-trump.html

(6,448 posts)I'm suddenly reminded of Reagan using "Born in the USA", because they only heard the hook. Lee Atwater, a pretty good guitarist, pointed out what the verses were saying. It didn't last too long on the campaign trail.

The band had no money and had to reshoot the scenes. They slapped a Trumpish wig on a guy and showed the guy as a big assh0le.
