Ann Coulter, who used the epithet faggot at least twice in a premeditated unapologetic way, has appeared twice this year. Open gays, which number at least 12 million Americans, appeared exactly once (Barney Frank). What does this say to a gay middle schooler who gets called faggot so much he thinks it is his name? What does it say to Matthew Shepard's parents, whose child quite likely heard faggot as among the last words he heard? It is nothing short of disgusting that a woman who used faggot publicly as an epithet not once but twice and with not even a thought of regret is given not only a seat at the round table on a Sunday morning news show but also a featured place on their website. Add in that exactly one openly gay person, one, one single solitary openly gay person has been given a guest slot on their show.

First link is a list of guests for the year second is the this week website
Michael Richards used the n word at a comedy club at a heckler. He profusely apologized for having done so. He is still a non person on tv. Had Ann Coulter used the n word or any other racial epithet she wouldn't be within a hundred miles of a tv studio even if she literally rent her garments and begged the world for forgiveness. Yet use faggot twice and ABC news will peddle your book while not putting a single gay on the same show. The fact is faggot just isn't that bad a word and gays just aren't real people that is the message ABC sends by doing this. The network of Brothers and Sisters and Modern Family ought to know better. The viewers of that network should too.

(101,355 posts)I cannot see why any serious current affairs program would use Coulter for anything. Apart from the offensive language, she has no analysis to offer at all. Her only method is to insult people she hates - liberals, gay people, etc. But with her using that language, she really ought to be off the air.

(62,325 posts)Coulter, maybe a campaign targeting their advertisers is the way to go. That has been the most successful method of forcing networks to stop giving a platform to these worthless, mindless, bigoted morons.
Color Of Change is doing a fantastic job of going after ALEC eg. They might be interested in helping to start a petition against the networks giving a platform to bigots like Coulter.
