Bill Kristol: Obama Has Turned Around The Financial Meltdown ‘Pretty Well’

Bill Kristol: Obama Has Turned Around The Financial Meltdown ‘Pretty Well’ | The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol advised the Mitt Romney to avoid making the election about the last four years, noting that the Obama administration inherited the crisis from Bush and has handled it well. “If this election is just about the last four years, that’s a muddy verdict. Bush was president during the financial meltdown. The Obama team has turned that around pretty well. Bill Clinton’s speech at the convention was very important in that way,” he said. Romney “has go to make it a choice about the next four years and explain what obama would do that would be bad for the country and what he would do to be good.” Watch it:

http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/09/23/894341/bill-kristol-obama-has-turned-around-the-financial-meltdown-pretty-well/

Republicans are flailing. Still, one has to question if they're all that smart. Kristol seems to smack down Romney's economic talking points (Kristol can see the writing on the wall), but he's doing his best to try to tear down the President's significant advantage on foreign policy. Romney can't win on that issue either.

Although it seems the RW lunatics have already thrown Kristol under the bus (which is probably why Noonan seems to be trying to tack back).

Can only be good for us, to have intelligent repugs saying it out loud. MIGHT mean a rational republican party could return.

They want Romney to lose in a landslide so he won't be in the primaries again with a bunch of money to run ads against Jeb.

He is going to be the nominee.

He is the only one who has been vetted, has national experience, had a successful governorship, can raise the money, has a built in infrastructure, has the network with Wall Street, but most important:

The Republican Party will become history if they allow the Hispanics to bond with the Democratic Party at the same rate as they now do.

If a person votes for the same national party three times in a row it is a 70% likelyhood that they will vote with that party the rest of their life.

For that reason 2016 will be the year that the Republicans will unite under a strategy of reconnecting with Hispanics.

Jeb Bush married a Mexican national and speaks Spanish.

Jeb Bush may or may not get elected President, but he is their only possible candidate in 2016 and that is why people like Kristol will help put the knife in Romney, they don't want to see him defeated they want him taken off the stage on a stretcher so that he can't enter the primaries in 4 years and hurt their candidate.

...there was a lot of that kind of thinking surrounding Rubio. I'm still not convinced. First, I don't believe for a second that Kristol and others want Romney defeated. What they're doing is planting the seeds for their own post mortem.

Secondly, the Republican attempts to suppress the vote are not a sign that they have thrown in the towel.

People who think that Rubio has some kind of support for Hispanics don't understand how different the Puerto Rico/Cuban/Hispanic groups are and how there is really great animus between them, especially between the Cuban and Hispanics.

Cubans all are legal once they arrive here while the rest of the Hispanics have relatives who have to fight for legal standing. The Cubans tend to look down on the others and the Hispanics resent Cubans special legal status.

Rubio has never expressed any sympathy for undocumented workers and is not llikely to poll better, and in some cases worse due to resentment.

As of late he seems to be setting the stage for some sort of "Moderate Republican Revival", what with comments that fall seem to fall within the accepted range of sanity. Indeed, this heretofore hard-right neocon seems to be looking ahead, beyond the likely "dire" election results come November.

are both neo-cons who prioritize their Israel policies over everything else. They are convinced that Romney will lose and starting to reach out to the Obama people to patch up the disaster that Romney and Netanyahu have made of US/Israeli relations.

Netanyahu may still launch an attack on Iran while he still can, but it is likely that when Obama wins, Netanyahu will lose his next election and/or leadership position.
