chicago suntimes:
A $500 bail was posted for a July warrant for Blakes arrest, according to his criminal defense attorney.
Jacob Blake is no longer in handcuffs in his hospital room, and the deputies have been removed from his room as of Friday afternoon.
Criminal defense attorney Patrick Cafferty said a $500 bail was posted for a July warrant for Blakes arrest. At this point, there are no charges against Blake regarding the police call Sunday that ended in Blake being shot in the back at least seven times by a Kenosha police officer, Cafferty said.
At least two deputies had been in Blakes hospital room at all times, Cafferty said.
Obviously, its going to be easier on him and his medical personnel and family now that its been addressed, Cafferty said. Well be able to focus on the merits of the criminal case.

(16,151 posts)WAY back when it was King Richard's Faire.
It was always a fun time.
Oops, off topic, but just thinking of that time made me smile.
And yes, it is great that Mr. Blake has had the restraints taken off though, they should never have been on in the first place.

(19,286 posts)Probably was garbage. I don't think the average person realizes how often warrants and court orders get screwed up.
Totally different circumstances, and not serious, but I was a victim of this once. Paid an overdue parking ticket when I was in college at the local court house, got a receipt and a paper saying it was paid. 2 years later and I get pulled over back home 100 miles away and there's a warrant for my arrest that my college town wants a hold for, WTF? I go to jail, am able to make a call and get bailed out. Have to pay to get my car out of impound, whole thing cost me $500. Drove down to my college town court house and go in and talk to them showing them the papers, yup they have a record I paid my fine and a release, someone didn't tap the right key though to apply the money to my fine, it was marked as unpaid for 2 years and a warrant was issued for my arrest.
This stuff happens constantly, the system is too complex and it's too backed up, constantly people have conditions to abide by to clear an incident up and they abide by them but someone forgets to clear the system and they show a warrant they shouldn't have. And there are cases of mistaken identity almost just as often.

(3,769 posts)is that they have to pay the $500 that the whole thing cost you. And if you had been someone who lived hand to mouth, you might not have had money for the rent because of this.

(32,103 posts)It came out days after the fact that he had a warrant out against him? Did they really? Or, did they gin something up after they shot him to make him look like a bad guy who "deserved" to get shot? It seems like there's always an attempt to smear the victim in order to justify the cops' actions, and this smacks of that.
On edit: I posted this before I saw the link downthread. It appears the warrant was legit.

(16,867 posts)When you get a ticket and either pay it or challenge it in court and win, you'd better keep the receipts and/or records for a good many years after the fact. I haven't gotten a ticket in about 15 years, but when I was pulled over I was given a ticket for not paying my previous fine, which I had paid years before. Fortunately the cop believed my story or I would have been taken to jail that day and kept there until I paid the previous fine. He just gave me a court date to get it so sorted out.
I never throw out receipts for paid fines. When I went to court for that ticket, I brought my paperwork and it was discovered that the state and local governments had no record of it being paid off. This has happened to a lot of friends in this state and I think it's deliberate. They don't keep good records and they count on two things happening so they can make you pay fines twice:
1. You don't keep records of your fines
2. You get caught doing something else wrong
It's sort of an extra little 'sin' tax for people who get tickets.

(4,260 posts)despite being paralyzed, which added to the family's devastation & grief. This was reported on Jake Tapper about 30 minutes ago. She said the cuffs have just been removed.
There's a certain sickness about shackling a paralyzed man at the ankle.

I've never heard of that from anyone I've known, but it makes sense.
Volume is high & it involves humans. Mistakes will get made.

(7,510 posts)One open case had warrants
The first part of this claim is largely accurate.
Blake was charged July 6 with felony third-degree sexual assault and misdemeanor trespassing and disorderly conduct. All three offenses carried a penalty enhancer because they were connected to domestic abuse.
The charges which have not gone to trial stem from a May 3 incident in Kenosha County. A woman Blake knew told police he came into her house about 6 a.m., sexually assaulted her and then took a debit card and car keys before fleeing in her vehicle, according to a criminal complaint. Contrary to many social media claims, the woman involved in this case was an adult.
A warrant for Blakes arrest was filed the day after the criminal complaint, online court records show.

(54,515 posts)Seven shots into his back in front of his children and paralysis for life?
Seems a little on the harsh side...........
Klaralven
(7,510 posts)Probably not? Otherwise why would he have been breaking up a domestic altercation where cops were likely to be called?
And was the woman's complaint valid? Maybe not, since the warrant has now been vacated?

(3,896 posts)The charges have not been dropped.
The warrant was for his arrest, he has been arrested, posted $500 bail and been released. So the the arrest warrant is no longer in play.

And shackles! Like they haven't abused him enough yet.

(6,580 posts)wanted here, but here it is anyway:
If this prisoner was not sent to an actual jail ward (and it doesn't seem like he was,) then he was shackled and guarded per their protocol. Period. No prisoner in the regular ward would NOT be shackled, even though he is paralyzed.
As to shackling his ankle, that was far better than shackling one of his wrists. If it were me, that's what I would choose for myself, leaving my hands free.
I don't know what went on here. Seven times in the back is excessive force. Reminds me of that guy in a car who told the officer he had a legal weapon in the car, and asked permission to retrieve documents that the officer had asked for, whereupon the officer shredded his arm with bullets, and the guy bled to death. His wife and child were in the back seat, and it was done right in front of them. That was another case of unbelievable violence done by cops that are obviously scared shitless of the arrestee.
It's hard to remember such stuff, but here it is again. When are we going to overhaul our police to a national standard, and prevent this stuff from happening?

(86,021 posts)...and no charges have been filed against the cop who held Jacob Blake's shirt so he could fire more shots into his body.
This was for a traffic stop for a domestic complaint which it turns out he likely didn't even know about.
I don't know how cops justify their nonsense, I can't find any support for how they treated this victim of their barbaric shooting. But resting on arbitrary regulations as a defense for shackling a man paralyzed by seven of your officer's bullets is just insult to injury. No one should accept that ridiculous excuse.

(14,605 posts)I don't think there's a jury in this country that would convict him after this anyway. He's already going to be punished for the rest of his life. Every day, every minute, every second. I know what being disabled is like - I'm not paralyzed, but I have a hard time walking and it is such a drag.
What happened to Jacob is an offense. That cop better be charged because this punishment does NOT fit the crime.
