(70,657 posts)No matter what the players, coaches, fans, and those in the sports media complex say
football is a good way to spread C-19 and right now we should be working on try to contain
it (the disease).

(9,328 posts)I watch a lot of Big 10 football and am not thrilled they cancelled. I think they didnt want to get sued by a player or anyone that got sick or died. I also think they assumed everyone else would cancel if they did and wanted a nice pat on the head by the media for canceling. Just my opinion.

(5,547 posts)I am sure that you lines of reasoning came into play.
But I honestly think that they are trying to pull off the in-person college experience for their University. In order to make it work, they have to come down hard on the kinds of environments that would cause spread. Even leaving fans out of the stadium would cause them to gather in other locations to watch games.
I have my doubts as to whether they will make it through the semester without sending the kids home. But, no matter how you look at it, canceling football makes it more likely they will be successful. I don't think it was an easy decision and sincerely hope it works out for them.
Having said that, my own alma mater is planning on playing (Miami-ACC). Not sure it is a great idea but I look forward to seeing them.

(9,328 posts)many if not most other D-1 schools are playing - at least as of now. Thats a good point that people will gather somewhere for the game. Im not sure to what extent people would gather no matter what is going on. At least Im not an Ohio St fan where they are a legit National Championship contender. That would really suck! Hope it at least helps keep your daughter safe.

Come on!
What should be hard to take is that most other div 1 schools are taking it less seriously even as COVID spread on campus and within athletic departments makes news daily.

Postponing till early next year makes it more likely we'll have more effective treatments, and a vaccine. Though it means less time for players to recover from any injuries before the fall season.
I understand the players, coaches and ADs, and most fans, being upset. But no one is happy about the changes we have to live with until we can deal with the coronavirus more effectively.

(5,547 posts)He talks about being balanced and independent but is really a right-wing putz.
I flipped by his radio show the other day and he had Don Jr on. Yeah...independent.
He is getting desperate and is shedding all pretense of impartiality now. Unfortunately, it fits perfectly with much of the AM radio dial.

This is an excellent angle of attack (and a nice ad) by Biden.
