https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/controversial-coronavirus-drug-administered-at-2-nursing-homes-senators-say/ar-BB18rv3G?ocid=spartan-ntp-feedsNursing homes in Texas and Pennsylvania administered hydroxychloroquine to residents battling novel coronavirus without first gaining needed approvals, according to state inspector reports highlighted by a group of Democratic senators Thursday.
The senators said the drug, which has been aggressively touted by President Donald Trump as a promising treatment for COVID-19 despite sparse evidence, was used in one nursing home after the Food and Drug Administration specifically warned against its use in non-hospital settings.
Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Bob Casey, D-Pa., and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said they found the reports citing two separate incidents, which impacted over 200 patients, "concerning" and sent letters Thursday to federal agencies that regulate nursing homes across the U.S. Theyrequested details on what efforts have been made to insure nursing home residents are not being subjected to unproven or unsafe treatments for the virus.
"The use of hydroxychloroquine is all the more concerning due to warnings from medical experts about the increased risks seniors face from the drug," the senators wrote.

Trump and friends are experimenting on Seniors. Seniors, the ones tossed away...who cares about them? Most certainly not the Trump admin.

(11,001 posts)I see I was a few minutes late. I needed to comment.
I hate DT with a passion. I have been doing home care for my now 94 year old mom going on 2 and a half years. If she was in a home she would be dead. I just can't even anymore. The cruelty of this admin is mind boggling, sacrificing Americans to win an election and continue enriching themselves.

(14,860 posts)If something like that happens to my oldest brother, who's in a nursing home, I'll go off!
He's mostly there because (1) He's blind; (2) He has no feeling in his feet and legs. (Both problems are related to a rare genetic condition. He's always been extremely health-conscious.)
So he was often falling, unable to either see or feel his own feet. Broke his back during one of his falls prior to the nursing home.
His nursing home has been super-careful regarding Covid from the outset, thank goodness! Guests still aren't allowed inside the place. (Visits must be scheduled and done outside with barriers between everyone.) So I doubt they'd do experiments with Trump's death-treatments.

(14,931 posts)"Texas physician used his Republican political connections to secure the anti-malaria medicine hydroxychloroquine and has begun administering it to elderly COVID-19 positive patients at a nursing home. Some patients and their families are not aware that they are being given the unproven drug that has been heavily-endorsed by President Trump.
Robin Armstrong, a physician and medical director of The Resort at Texas City nursing home, decided to start what hes calling an observational study following an outbreak of the coronavirus that hit the facility earlier this month. One patient has died and another 87 have tested positive, including 56 residents and 31 staff, according to NPR.
Armstrong, who formerly served as the vice-chairman of the Republican Party of Texas from 2006-2010, reached out to Republican Lieutenant Governor of Texas Dan Patrick, who in-turn made some calls. Two days later, according to NPR, Armstrong had received more than enough medication to begin giving it to patients.
........
Armstrong said he is tracking the patients health and will submit his findings in some kind of report.
......
Seley-Radtke is right about the president and hydroxychloroquine and the faulty methodology in Armstrongs study. Even with Dr. Anthony Fauci, and other medical experts consistently warning against the acceptance of anecdotal evidence of the drugs effectiveness, Trump continues to, as NBC News wrote, effectively serve as an infomercial pitchman for the drug. And its dangerous. Plus, according to the FDA, all clinical trials must follow strict guidelines such as informed consent to protect human rights and prevent abuse. And studies on human subjects must also be approved by institutional review boards to ensure safety and ethics.
As for Armstrong and his nursing home, NPR also looked into the facility itself and the results were anything but reassuring. In July of 2019, the last time the facility was inspected, it was cited for 14 violations, including the buildings design not meeting safety standards as well as cleanliness issues in food areas and other parts of the building. Additionally, the report stated, The facility did not properly care for residents needing special services and then listed several health needs that one would expect a nursing home should be able to perform without issue."
