I’ve been watching all evening and sending notes to my brother and sister (we were in Gracie as kids(1959), so we watch hurricanes closely) —- a buoy in the gulf recorded a 37-foot wave —- the storm surge from Rita was 9 feet and change; the predicted surge with this storm is 15 feet - the surge is predicted to go as far as 30 miles inland —

Oh, and the highest high tide of the month will be at 6am or so

Your brother and sister aren't down there, are they?

please keep those pour souls..150?..in your thoughts. They chose to stay behind for reasons known only to them. Couldnt bring a pet? That happened during Katrina. Freedom of choice? whatever the reason they need a miracle tonight.

At least we're demonstrating concern and love of fellow man and sending good vibes their way.

This thing will still be tropical storm strength all the way up around Little Rock, so there's bound to be serious flooding and wind damage over several states (maybe even some in MO, TN and KY).

Louisiana and Arkansas are going to be a big mess....

Katrina was a Cat 3 at landfall, this storm may be between a Cat 4 and a Cat 5. I really wish that the vast majority of people have gotten out of the way of this storm.

Storm surge is unsurvivable.

No WH response. Nothing.

My heart is breaking for those that did not leave. Even then the tides may travel inland for 30-40 miles. I can't even.

I'm doing an eyeball projection looking at the Lake Charles radar loop and was figuring the mouth of the Sabine River (also Cameron).

Also looks to me like it's trying to steer more toward Port Arthur and Beaumont after landfall, then go right over Orange, TX.

It's within 10-miles of landfall right now (12:30am EST).

NWS still showing 150mph winds.

was the part of the Florida panhandle it hit was sparsely populated. It did destroy an Air Force base they are slowly putting back together. It definitely changed the landscape. Snapped pine trees like toothpicks 50 miles inland.
