PREDICTION: By November 6th, FOX NEWS will become the first TV news network in history...
...to officially endorse a Presidential candidate. (And do I really need to say that candidate will be Romney?)
Why couldn't they do it? Newspapers do it all the time, so why not those "journalists" on the Teevee? Fox News was the first news network to really double down on unapologetic partisanship, so this would be the next natural step for them. Plus, not only do they have opinion show after opinion show hosted by conservatives and former GOP politicians already; not only do they have Romney operatives and campaign staffers masquerading as unbiased observers; they have a vested interest in Romney winning.
An Obama win would be a significant blow against the narrative they've been spinning for the last 4 years--that Barack Obama is out of touch with the American people, while their network is fundamentally IN touch with them. Fox News saw their worst ratings yet in the aftermath of Obama's 2008 victory, and really only recovered them once they pretty much engineered the Tea Party movement. But another Obama win--this time unbound by reelection concerns--would REALLY hurt them. The same people who would turn against a losing Mitt Romney and his masters woukd also turn against Fox News, who have lately been the most pro-Romney folks on the map. Fox would not be the first casualty of the coming GOP Civil War, but they would definitely be the biggest.
I think this will be Romney's big October Hail Mary, and whether it will work or not--it'll be a huge deal. As Rachel says, talk me down.
