1. The predicted cones don't overlap too much

except along the east Texas and west Louisiana coasts. However, there will be a lot of rain dumped over the area and restoring electrical power will be difficult since such a wide area is being impacted. I doubt the winds will be too damaging. The scary part is that the water temperature in that area of the Gulf is hot so it will provide a lot of energy for both storms.

2. I just heard that they should be about 900 miles apart

The rain and power cuts will be a problem but both are moving pretty fast.
