Trump, the Postal Service, and the Russian kleptocrats' playbook

I think most Democrats and progressives and Democrats already know that Donnie is the sort of guy who would happily hand off taxpayer assets to his wealthy cronies and campaign donors, with the latter getting preferential treatment (What Texas politicians cynically call “Pay to play”), but younger folks and political late-risers may not realize where we’ve seen this before.

No, it wasn’t in some bogus version of American history. It was far more recent indeed, during the breakup of the old Soviet socialist economy, when the state’s access were handed off through rubles and connections to powerful and well-connected ex-Party officials.

And that’s what Trump and his cabinet is trying to do here. OUR property, the property of the citizens of the United States of America, is to be handed off (as often as not well below market value) to Trump’s cronies, with the compliant Republican-controlled Senate doing nothing (Although Senator Collins may express her concern and clutch her pearls for good measure, which is more than either of my state’s senators are likely to do).

The Postal Service and public lands are OUR property. Their theft.

Let’s show our outrage

Exactly, for pennies on the dollar they would "sell" the monopoly USPS to favored friends. SharonAnn Aug 2020 #1

The friends would then have a monopoly, billions in annual revenue, cut employees, reduce service, and raise prices. That would give them even more billions in revenue.

This is what was done in Pinochet's Chile and why there are continual desires in the U.S. to privatize utility companies and the TVA.

Lots of profits to be made for well-connected "friends".

It's theft.
