Ala Columbia and Jeff City ? .....

I lived in Springfield for 15 months (some of the worst months of my life) - I greatly doubt the Ozarks are pulling towards the Dems ....

I also have family in Willow Springs and Mountain View - Same thing applies ....

Good luck ....

These little towns are swinging leftward, and they add up. Springfield won't, but Joplin may surprise us.

Don't know Missouri that well. this page seems to show about 2,800,000 (almost half of Missouri) in those blue counties on that map. More population than area, it seems like.

You don't see a lot of PEOPLE either.

A lot of lakes,...but not people.

BTW: I posted this animated gif I did years ago on another topic but it fits here.

Look at the election trends from 1960 and notice how many times Minnesota has gone blue:

[IMG][/IMG]

The only time they didn't was Nixon's reelection which was the biggest landslide in history. McGovern only carried Massachusetts which wasn't even his home state. Amazing what the claim of a secret plan to end an unpopular war does to the voters. Hell Minnesota didn't vote for Reagan either time.

Missouri has needed FEMA for floods and an unbelievably destructive tornado.

Don't count Joplin out this time. They know FEMA has been instrumental in helping those communities begin to get back on their feet. Much of the population of the third largest city in MO joined the 47% because their city was destroyed.

Unlike Katrina Obama has been true to his word in Joplin and gave the commencement speech in 2012 to a very republican audience. It's a shame Claire McCaskill promised she wouldn't take any earmarks. They could have used some.

I'm making guesses here, but have heard from many people that the venom that city used to spew toward Obama is not so much the norm these days.

vote for Obama or any other Democrat. If Jasper county went Democratic it would mean there was a landslide of epic proportions. Southwest Missouri is very conservative and will be for a long time.

This regressing map from Salon is interesting. Missouri's most distinctly republican years are the mid 00s. Late 80s\early 90s and early - mid 20s.

http://www.salon.com/2012/09/23/what_100_years_of_voting_looks_like/

The changes we are seeing today are pretty dramatic. It doesn't hurt to hope.
