Just put a word of encouragement and support through this tough time in your box. I am leaving a gift too. I wrote Ron Johnson a note demanding defense of the USPS, what a waste of skin that Russian asset is.

but make the package, letter or whatever VERY clear that it is not post but a private message to the carrier. Don't seal it, for instance.
Write in large letters "ATTENTION MAIL CARRIER! THIS IS FOR YOU!!" AND DO NOT MAKE IT LOOK LIKE IT WANTS TO BE MAILED. (sorry to shout!)
He/she will notice it. Don't put any postage on it (obviously) and your carrier will get the hint.
If you just want to leave a note of thanks or encouragement, then just place the written note in your mailbox without an envelope. They'll get it.

(20,271 posts)Spent $$$ recently on the USPS website. Stamps, 2 framed prints, puzzles, coffee mug. Earlier this year, a mail truck, express delivery tee shirt, 5 peace rose gift bags, note cards and three different design stamps.
At the PO where my newer box is, we love on each other. I come bearing gifts. Mostly gift cards or $$ for their lunches. It gives me great joy.

Edit: I'll be. Their tees are depleted except for an Earth Day one. I hope they replenish the supply soon.

(113 posts)I carried mail for 34 years and when my patrons left me a note or a gift it made me feel appreciated. I retired last year and I can tell you the job is soooo much harder now than it was when I started. Even just leaving a cold bottle of water is a nice gesture.

(7,220 posts)All postal employees, including carriers, must comply with the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch. Under these federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas.
If you want to leave over $20, I'd suggest splitting it over a couple of whatever constitutes an "occasion".
I love this idea BTW!!
