JUST IN: The U.S. Postal Service confirms to NPR that it's postponing the removal of mailboxes for the next 90 days.
The action comes as the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform called on Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to testify at an urgent hearing on Aug. 24

(102,589 posts)This, AT the main post office. The remaining collection boxes were so full that I had to reach down and physically push it down so that my letter might not be intentionally or unintentionally "removed" from someone intending trouble.
This was on a Saturday, five hours before the last collection time, so there is little doubt this is going to be a problem. But, why the hell would they remove collection boxes AT the post office?????

These removals were strategic by Lovejoy who should resign immediately. This next week is going to be a bad one for Lovejoy that could destroy his reputation and company.his company should lose its logistics contract and return the job to the USPS.

They have already sabotaged many cities, towns, and rural areas. Flood them with calls, emails, and letters. Do the same for Representatives and Senators. Demand they be immediately returned. Demand immediate hearings. Pressure works.

(68 posts)Here's their lame excuse.
Mail collection boxes are practically as American as apple pie. They also seem to be disappearing as quickly as moms homemade apple pie.
Nationally, the number of collection boxes declined by more than 12,000 in the past 5 years. Some customers have complained the U.S. Postal Service has gone too far and removed too many collection boxes in neighborhoods. Theyve also questioned whether this effort is saving USPS money in the long run.
Its a tough balancing act for the Postal Service. Some collection boxes are barely used and are expensive to maintain. On the other hand, mail collection boxes are a visible representation of the Postal Service to the American public, and their disappearance has been noted. They also are reliable, secure, and convenient receptacles for mail.
As part of its efforts to keep its collection infrastructure proportionate to customers needs at a reasonable cost, the Postal Service has eliminated underused collection boxes that on average receive fewer than 25 pieces a day; it has also added collection boxes where they are convenient for customers.
