Paul Ryan Booed At AARP For Attacking Obamacare
Paul Ryan drew boos speaking to the AARP by attacking 'Obamacare' and pledging to repeal it.
"The first step to a stronger Medicare is to repeal Obbamacare," he said to a shower of jeers. "I had a feeling there would be mixed reaction, so let me get into it. It weakens medicare for today's seniors and puts it at risk for the next generation. First, it funnels $716 billion out of Medicare to pay for a new entitlement we didn't even ask for. Second, it puts 15 unelected bureaucrats in charge of medicare's future."
Ryan was booed repeatedly as he continued to attack the bill, especially after he said the law "turned Medicare into a piggy bank for Obamacare."

(9,127 posts)What sort of ass would go up in front of an AARP convention decry Obama-care and then claim that he would protect medicare? Well, the answer is obvious: the sort of politician that has never faced informed, activist voters.
What happened to Paulie in New Orleans is that for one of the rare occasions in his pretty, privileged life he had to face informed and active voters do their own research before heading to the polls and who know better than to swallow the (bleep) that he'd been feeding his credulous, incurious, and ill-informed constituents back in his Wisconsin congressional district.
It is good to see that an angry, informed interest bloc knows better than to believe the propaganda, lies, and false promises coming out of the Rmoney-Ryan presidential campaign. I dearly wish that the same sort of political awakening would occur among voters on Ryan's home turf.

(8,377 posts)But he just continues to make shit up -- completely untrue or nonsensical statements such as the idea that the Medicare Advantage savings were not "walled off" and instead went into "Obamacare". That is a load of crap. ACA addressed private insurance for those not covered by Medicare and Medicaid, but it also has lots of provisions that cover Medicaid and medicare. The whole idea of "walling off" makes not a lick of sense.
I used to think this guy was really smart but just plain evil. I'm coming to the conclusion that he really isn't that smart at all.

(8,377 posts)That is the element that has been missing from our system. To some degree, Ralph Nader is right. I certainly don't accept Ralph's point that the two parties are equally culpable. But the trend in media has been to polarized networks (Fox and MSNBC) and the other networks who do nothing but false equivalence. This created an environment where charlatans like Ryan could go for 24 months with his radical budget never being seriously challenged or even exposed to the most basic questions. I'm sure some good Democrats have tried to raise questions, but the system tends to crush that.
Ann Romney was almost right. I am thankful we do have the chance to pass judgment on the ideas Romney and Ryan represent. We had no such opportunity in 2008 when the opposition was the kindly but senile war hero and the MILF with the intellect of a third-grader. Romney is trying his best not to represent anything, but people are seeing through that to the core values most Americans find repugnant. And Ryan, to his credit, makes no attempt to hide anything.
We need more Ryan appearances in Florida, please.

(18,186 posts)The Conservative "Association of Mature American Citizens" is trying to convince seniors to join them so that AMAC can convince them they don't need to be mooches.
AARP is too liberal for the mouth breathers, so it's gotta be demonized and marginalized.
Ryan believes Dan Weber will convince those silly seniors to trust Republicans and hate AARP for promoting "a government-controlled, godless society."

What I don't get is why Romney and Ryan deliberately and arrogantly alienate whole masses of voters the way they do. WTH?
Well, I suppose we should thank R&R on some level, for once again demonstrating just what class of human beings they are.

(310 posts)I always thought Ryan was sort of a doofus. I think that public perception will move along that way too. Many of you are probably to young to remember Dan Quayle when he was an up and coming star. I wonder if Paul Ryan will suffer a similar fate.
