(488 posts)but TPTB desperately need this election to be perceived as a dead heat for a couple of reasons:
1) elections are a huge money maker for TPTB, and if it becomes perceived en masse that the President has this wrapped up two months before people head to the polls, the campaign contributions will stop pouring in.
2) the perceived closeness and thus deep polarization of the country benefits TPTB as well. As long as they can keep the 99% divided and fighting amongst themselves over no-brainer issues like civil rights, they can keep steadily funneling our money into their pockets undetected.

(14,176 posts)There's a serious bent to it. Why IS Romney within striking distance?
The reason I believe is the saturation of right wing talk radio infesting the US especially the mid and southern areas. There, they don't have a choice, its right wing hate radio chalk full of lies and distortions and fear mongering 24/7. It becomes eventually "just the way folks think". I can't even totally blame FAUX News TV. After all there are more choices on television. But people are led to that disgusting network because they are primed to it by hearing their favorite pundits like Hannity etc... in the daytime on radio and naturally tune in to the same pundits on TV.
Its a disease and I don't see any way out of it. Any new "fairness doctrine" brought down by Gov'ment would be met with an all out war by those pundits to make sure that they retain their monopoly and no alternate views get on air.
