Nationwide conference: Postponement of the 2020 college football season and all fall sports.

Sources: Power 5 Conferences Moving Toward Canceling Fall Sports

High-level conference meetings are being planned for this week across the college football landscape with the expected resolution of postponing fall sports until 2021, multiple sources have told Sports Illustrated.

“It’s gotten to a critical stage,” one conference commissioner told Sports Illustrated Sunday, after a conference call between the heads of the Power 5 conferences. “I think all of us will be meeting with our boards in the coming days. We have work to do that is no fun.”

Dominoes started falling in earnest Saturday when the Mid-American Conference postponed fall sports. The Big Ten followed with an announcement that it was pausing its scheduled progression to full-pads football practices. A well-placed source told SI Saturday, “I think by the end of the week the fall sports will be postponed in all conferences.”

Even that timetable might be accelerated. Sources told SI on Sunday that the Big Ten is moving toward a decision to cancel the 2020 fall season, while engaging other Power 5 conferences on a uniform decision to be announced later this week.

in fact I was too young to remember my first game. But I haven't renewed this year on ethical grounds. I was hopeful and willing to see how it played out but here in Texas we have a positivity rate above 20%. Just not a priority now.

They cancelled OOC games, but other conferences already did that. (Other conferences cancelled all of their games, like the Ivy League.) It's certainly not like they lead the way.

Arizona indeed had the highest percentage of positive cases at one time, but not California. California has a huge population, so their overall cases will always be relatively high.

Current positive cases as a percentage (new infections) per Covid-19 Projections:
https://covid19-projections.com

SEC:
Mississippi: 20.5%
Texas: 20.4%
Florida: 17.3%
Alabama: 15.6%
South Carolina: 13.7%
Arkansas: 13.0%
Missouri: 12.4%
Georgia: 10.9%
Tennessee: 8.7%
Louisiana: 7.2%
Kentucky: 6.5%

Pac-12:
Arizona: 12.6%
Utah: 8.3%
Colorado: 6.6%
Oregon 6.3%
Washington: 6.2% (last week before they had reporting issues)
California: 5.8%

Big Ten:
Iowa: 9.3%
Indiana: 8.6%
Nebraska: 8.0%
Minnesota: 6.9%
Wisconsin: 6.2%
Maryland: 5.3%
Pennsylvania: 5.1%
Ohio: 5.1%
Illinois: 4.1%
Michigan: 2.5%
New Jersey: 1.5%

The Ivy League did several months ago, although those schools are not that important in football.

In today's Santa Fe New Mexican there's an article from the AP that the MAC, Mid-American Conference, has cancelled the fall season. It's just a matter of time before all the fall sports are shut down.

Heck, I'm surprised that MLB is still happening.

The upcoming Cardinals - Pirates series was just cancelled because 17 members of the Cardinals organization have tested positive (10 players and seven staff).

One has to wonder how long before they throw in the towel and give up on the season.

would last another two weeks. Clearly I was wrong about that timing, but I find it unfathomable that they will actually finish this season, such as it is.

I believe every single day more and more NFL players are opting out. I wonder how many players a team needs to lose before it realizes it simply can't play.

I just let them have it on a USC forum. The post will probably be removed.

We were not going to be allowed to even start practice until after labor day, which was going to cause a lot of issues on its own. Got the word today that we were postponing the entire season with the plan to try to play it this spring.

This relies on using the schools facilities and we aren't allowed on the property until the day after labor day when schools open here. They made an exception for HS football and they are able to start practice this week.

When you start practice you have to go a certain time, I believe it's a week for us, without pads and then get X number of padded practices in before a player can play in a game. That would have put us at the last weekend in September or may even October before we could hold our scrimmages and another week before we could hold a game. That would have put us finishing up after Thanksgiving. That's normal football time, but out little guys are usually finished by Halloween. We have to wait to use the field until after the Middle School is finished, so we wouldn't even be able to start practice until after dark by that time.

I'm not sure who made the final call, but it came down yesterday.

We missed baseball season last year. It would be nice if they went ahead and let us play that now since football is delayed.

Many people live and breathe Iowa and Iowa State football. It will ruin the fall for them and they’ll have plenty of time to think about how Trump’s covid actions caused it...if the Dems push it.
