BRAVO. No one asked if Pence was a nice boss, was ambitious, was likeable. No one covered what he wore. No one asked how much his suits cost. The very same standard should apply to Biden's VP.
MSNBCs Ali Velshi: We Need to Stop Applying Double Standards to Women in Politics
By Josh FeldmanAug 9th, 2020, 3:24 pm
MSNBCs Ali Velshi devoted a segment of his show Sunday to calling out double standards about women in politics in the United States.
Velshi ran through a list of nations that have had women as presidents or prime ministers the list goes on and on, it spans every continent, but not America.
He said right now the U.S. is on the cusp of history because Joe Biden has made it clear hes picking a woman to be his vice presidential candidate, calling the diverse list an empirically impressive group of women.
Its going to take real effort to mess this one up, but if theres anything America can mess up, its the advancement of women, Velshi said.

(9,426 posts)are deserving of appointments in Biden's administration. EVERY last one of them is accomplished and a fighter for what is right. All of them have more "balls" than tRump or Pence.

(13,435 posts)If the Obama terms taught us anything, Id think it would be that electing a woman as VP or POTUS is just as likely to turbo-charge sexism and misogyny though much would depend on the degree to which the opposition would look to leverage it to their advantage.

(11,566 posts)We are long overdue for a woman vice president and president. After the Trump debacle, could anyone realistically complain a woman in the White House might mess things up?

(16,846 posts)Canada and Mexico. I know there have been several all over the the world. It just makes me wonder if there is some sort of underlying reason why possibly all of the North Americans always have men in control of their governments.

(101,316 posts)Not for long, and she lost the election at the end in a landslide. I don't know the ins and outs of why it went so badly for her and her party - maybe a Canadian can comment?

(16,846 posts)I hope a Canadian comments on this, too. Ill

(50,338 posts)as Prime Minister and the Progressive Conservatives chose her to replace him. She lost the November 1993 election because the PC party was very, very unpopular by this time. The lost all but 2 seats in that election. There may well have been some sexism in the election but her defeat wasn't because of that, it was because of Canadians' dislike of her party.
LuvNewcastle
(16,846 posts)if Canadians disliked her party so much that they almost wiped them out, I'm inclined to think that her sex was maybe just the icing on the cake for people who wanted the end of the PCs.

Or what John Kerry's ankles looked like.
Or how Speaker Tom Foley was or wasn't hated by the GOP.
Or if Biden should apologize for criticizing Obama during the primaries.

(45,442 posts)we may have a woman president sooner than people think. I want her to be a Democrat.
It was disgusting that the first 2 Indian-American governors were Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley. But it was awesome that our first US Senator is a liberal from California. Kamala Harris might be VP.

(58,785 posts)much higher, for those we elect to office. Because we believe in government of, by and for the people, which requires empowering good people. And for the most part, they don't.
Of course Rubin would agree. She's the kind of moderate conservative who believes in good government and representative government.
