(7,411 posts)you don't need this reminder to know about it. It's always in the back of your mind.
On a side note, you can see the sun's reflection on the face of the planet as it moves east to west in that GIF.
It's a stunning GIF

(54,370 posts)We spent most of July in Truro, Massachusetts. Usually the ocean side is so cold, my wife won't even go in without a wet suit. Seals sometimes swim by, and there is the rare shark warning and once every two weeks closing of a beach due to a shark siting. This year, I didn't even need to wait to get used to the water. It was no colder than it was in Hawaii fifteen years ago.
We have now left the Cape, but have heard from friends there that there have been up up to four closings a DAY of some of the ocean beaches due to multiple shark sitings. Getting scary out there.

(63,221 posts)It was on Bailey Island, just north of Portland, ME. My brother and his wife were just on vacation in Cape Elizabeth, ME, not far from there. I was worried about them, but fortunately they made it through without any shark sightings.
I have heard the water up there has been unusually warm compared to other years. I used to go to the beach in Kennebunkport when visiting my sister and the water was so cold it was numbing to the touch.
The only way to go in was to just run at full speed and take the plunge, knowing that you would be out of breath for a few seconds as you got used to the shock of your body being submerged in the ice-cold water. These days, I stick to the pool. The beach is losing it's appeal for a number of reasons.

We used to stay in Woods Hole near Nobska light.
I miss the cape and New England.

(54,370 posts)On a recommendation, we went up there* in 1984 with our 1 year old elder daughter. The next year, we thought, that was really nice, lets go back. We have been back every summer since.
