Donald Trump stepped in on Saturday, signing Executive Orders that cut the unemployment boost as well as the payroll tax. Many Republicans came out in favor of the move. Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse, however, was appalled by Trumps move, calling it unconstitutional slop.
The pen-and-phone theory of executive lawmaking is unconstitutional slop, the GOP senator wrote in a statement. President Obama did not have the power to unilaterally rewrite immigration law with DACA, and President Trump does not have the power to unilaterally rewrite the payroll tax law.
Lindsey Graham said of the move, I appreciate the President taking this decisive action but would much prefer a congressional agreement. I believe President Trump would prefer the same.

Imagine if we had a government in which lawmakers were all actually trying to help citizens, rather than 1/2 trying to kill, starve & deprive of medical care! 🤬

(46,039 posts)I remember reading here that the Republicans in the Senate were going to give Trump until Labor Day to turn things around and, if he hasn't by then, cut him loose. Are they starting early? I hope.

republicans knew exactly what shithole would be doing and signing and therefore they had ample time to get the statement together for purity republicans to ponce on it . .. which includes Pre O's EO regarding DACA.
On cue, mcturtle comes rushing in and of course blames the Democrats.
mcturtle and McCarthy were suspiciously absent from the aid package negotiations.
republicans went home again starting on Thursday. They get a three day weekend but the working class gets only a two day weekend.
This was planned and it has backfired.
