To clarify the point that the POSotus’s bill doesn’t do what it claims to, while actively but surreptitiously causing harm behind the headlines.

It’s a fine point, and sadly, tragically, many people won’t get that point, even with explanation.

She’s trying to explain how Trump’s memoranda and single executive order actually accomplish NOTHING. They’re smoke.

I admire Speaker Pelosi. I have been watching her operate, and operate well, for a long time. I appreciate nearly everything that she has done for us. I respect her as the highest-ranking Democrat in the country ...

... but she’s 80, and it’s starting to show. This was not her best interview.

she's losing her voice. What got to me was that in spite of her clear explanations, Chris Wallace was either so ignorant of what is actually going on or so intent on pushing the party line that he pretended not to understand what she was saying. There's no excuse on his part for that.

“My father was a lifelong Democrat, 46 years in the union, and he said, ‘You’re going to register as a Democrat.’ And I said, ‘OK,’ “ recalled Mike Mazza Jr., a 55-year-old carpenter. “I would say right now if my father was alive I truly think I could swing him to vote Republican.”

Mazza switched this year. He’s always been more conservative on issues like abortion and gun control, he said. He thinks his former party gives too many handouts.

“I’m just sorry I didn’t wake up soon enough to vote for (Trump) the first time,” said Mazza, who sat out the 2016 election.

I guess this "carpenter" doesn't realize that his social security or if he gets disabled is now under attack, and then he mentions handouts what a disgrace to support a traitor ..............

Sun Aug 9, 2020, 10:54 AM

It is pretty much par for the course for any journalist to ask a question such as, "isn't it better for people to get some relief now, even if less than what you say is needed, than for people to get no relief?" It represents the line of thinking Trump hopes people will view his "Executive Orders" as promoting, and no doubt that is a reaction that some people would have. By asking those questions Wallace gave Pelosi a clear opportunity to rebut that argument, and she did, masterfully. A good political leader not only can handle questions like that, she welcomes them for the opportunity they present her with to make her case and demolish that or her opponents. That is exactly what Pelosi did. Well done Nancy! And Chris Wallace gave her room to make her points when Nancy Pelosi called him on his interruption. I don't quarrel with Wallace here, but I praise Pelosi highly.

She knows "her stuff" and is sharp as a tack. Wallace smirks and looks sleazy. Compare Nancy's interviews with a tRump interview. tRump does not know what the hell this job as president entails, never has and never will. It is just the perks he loves, the TV appearances, flights on AF1, free travel, golf and living expenses. Lining his pockets ignoring the Emoluments Clause. The gop is the party of traitors. That vote not to impeach the orange arse proved that they are all in cahoots to destroy the working class. Social Security and Medicare have been their target for years, especially McConnell. THIS is why universal healthcare had no chance while McConnell and gop are in any way in control of anything in government.

The simple message that was a direct answer to Wallace's accusations that she blew it got lost.

His executive orders are smoke and mirrors. They do not do what he claims. He has, essentially ordered people to look into things.

Stop there. Force Wallace to acknowledge that reality, before moving into the differences between the bills.

I don't think she sounded tired. She sounded like a well educated woman who knows what she is talking about and was working to explain in terms that people would understand. Her audience was Fox News viewers--not Chris Wallace who was trying to throw her off balance and failed BTW.

Some of the comments on this board are ageist and a bit misogynistic in MY OPINION. As an older woman, when I listened to her interview, what I heard was an underlying tone of impatience at Chris Wallace's ignorant hype and his voice getting louder and louder as he tried to start an argument.

Cripes! If anything happens to Trump and Pence before the next election, Nancy Pelosi would be our President. She has more than amply earned my respect with what she has had to deal with in this time of Trump and his cabal--let alone all of the years before this.

This is a temporary condition in some males. When a woman says something, they are deaf.
When a man says the exact same thing five minutes later, they are hearing normally again.

Apparently not diagnosed by doctors, but diagnosed by women. Had it happen to me as a woman.

to ferret out the truth, and even dig into other sources if need be.

Wallace is a conservative who works for a Murdoch-owned right-wing propaganda outlet, which lives, breathes and has its being, along with talk radio, in the evil soup of the 1971 Powell Manifesto and the 1987 pocket veto of the Fairness Doctrine by the snake Reagan.

So, when we look at Wallace fact checking Trump on the air over 'defunding' police, it was that which was out of character.

I've found in my six decades of living that everyone has a story. Perhaps Wallace wakes up nights and worries that he has sold his soul to neolib/neocon empire building and corporate capitalism. Maybe this deal with Trump is a conservative guy trying to come to grips with the monster that the GOP and the corporate propaganda machine created over decades with its constant drumbeat of rugged individualism, racism, mistrust of others, anti-unionism and all the rest.

Because Trump and the current batch of Republicans are monsters, but they are the epitome of what Grover Norquist meant when he said the American government needed to be shrunk to the point where it could be 'strangled in a bathtub' and taxes cut to near nothing.

These right-wingers have so utterly fucked up this republic because they are in step - they are moving forward with a plan.Fortunately, to my mind, the universe messed up that plan by allowing Trump to be elected. The oligarchs didn't have everything in place, so they have gone ahead with the coup, but again the universe imposed coronavirus on us and allowed us to see how utterly evil the Republican non-approach to government and shock-and-awe capitalism actually is.

As bad as Trump is, the anger that is building against he and his criminal Republican henchmen has a better than even chance of saving this republic.

So, what to do now? Donate to downticket blue, and to Biden, and vote even if you have to crawl over broken glass to do so. At least that's my plan.
