If they allow him to defund those programs, they will reap the whirlwind in November.

(14,859 posts)Most seniors know very well that their Social Security benefits are safe. Current recipients will never have their benefits cut. Benefit cuts are always proposed for future retirees. Trump voting seniors (which were the majority of seniors in 2016) have no problem whatsoever with that. They are perfectly happy to see the younger people fucked over.

(65,458 posts)defunding of SS , Medicare, and Medicaid, because that won't affect their payouts.
I'm saying that if defunding those programs doesn't undermine him with seniors, his willingness to sacrifice seniors in an uncontrolled pandemic just to open up the economy might do the trick, at least for many seniors.

(14,859 posts)because I was responding to the OP, and I did not want to hijack the OP's thread. This thread is about SS and Medicare and the payroll tax bullshit.
Covid may very well lose the Republicans votes from seniors, but that is a separate issue and is not the topic of this thread.

(14,859 posts)I don't think they'll lose many votes on account of the payroll tax. His retired supporters assume they're safe from benefit cuts - and they're probably right about that.

(25,111 posts)Seniors would see a deduction in their SS checks and benefits from Medicare. Many seniors were afraid of this happening, but on a good note, t-rump does not have authority, only congress.
This action of his does put senate republicans on the hook tho
Mariana
(14,859 posts)Did you mean to say they would see a reduction, or did you mean deduction?

(14,971 posts)Trump wanted payroll tax cuts in the first bill, McConnell refused. Defunding SS and Medicare is lethal. Remember when Bush tried to privatize SS?

(16,178 posts)the death knell of the republicon party. We boomers aren't exactly stupid but we have grown up and worked toward the day that we would be able to at least rest a bit and not have our homes taken away due to medical bills and being "broke".
Too few have saved and fewer still have pensions that haven't been tapped or shorted due to the bullionaires needing more, more, more.
I keep trying to picture 3,000,000 people on the Washington Mall on walkers and wheelchairs protesting against this crap but then realize too many have watched faux news over the years and feel they don't deserve it..
Gaud, I'm getting tired.
