My local post offices closed on Saturday, half time weekdays

I was wondering why my drop offs take 2 days to get scanned in. Sign on the door about staffing shortages. Window hours 3.5 hours a day. Closed Saturday. Guy at the third post office I went to says he works the other two part time weekdays. Don't know if this is about sick employees, overtime, or reduced personnel or all of the above.

So to mail a package, plan extra days for uptake. Oh, one bonus. More mileage as a business expense here. Less taxable income for the government.

I'd say US House District 1 PA is a coveted area. But it has more registered Republicans than Democrats. Where it's being targeted ... who knows. Talk has been for decades that the middle of 3 post offices would close, but the argument has always been where will those people go to get their mail. The 3rd PO is way beyond tiny. In the 90's the postmistress complained to me there was no hot water and no heat, she had a small electric heater under her desk. I didn't understand if that austerity was being forced on her location, or if it was by choice.

I'm hoping these are summer, light volume measures. Come October, package volume will pick up. No way they can do this in Nov-Dec.
