European diplomats believe Joe Biden will repair the damage done by Trump to America's broken alliance with Europe

European diplomats and foreign policy experts say that a Joe Biden presidency would restore the United States' strained alliances with Europe.

Donald Trump's presidency has put relations between the US and its closest allies under severe stress.

The president's attacks on international institutions and his dislike for multilateral action have tested longstanding alliances.

One senior UK diplomat told Business Insider that they believed a Biden presidency would bring an end to "the venal corruption" of the Trump era.

Joe Biden's election as US president in November would restore UK-US relations, repair the diplomatic damage caused by the Trump administration, and boost the prospects of a transatlantic trade deal, according to European diplomats and trade experts.

The transatlantic alliance between the US and its European allies has been under growing strain since Trump's election in 2016.

The president's attacks on multilateral institutions such NATO, his attacks on Europe's rapprochement with Iran, and his decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord have all tested the long-standing "special relationship" with the UK and other European allies.

The damage has been reflected among the European public, with recent polling showing a collapse in perceptions of America on the other side of the Atlantic.

I do wish the media would include Pompusass in these articles as he's been such a fool.

His gifts will come at the time we needed them the most. Just as Obama was the person we needed at that moment to get us through that crisis.. Biden is for this crisis.. but honestly I do not know how many more times we can keep hauling the country's ashes out of the Republican maelstroms that they bring every time they get elected.

...there is absolutely no one in this country better suited to repairing what can be repaired after this unprecedented, unPresidented, disaster.

I think this will be his time and he will be remembered as the man who pulled us from the brink, assuming of course, that Trump doesn't steal the election. I believe Biden is uniquely qualified for this moment in time, much as FDR was the perfect man to tackle the Great Depression and World War II.

This IS his moment in time. This is the reason his other runs didn't work...we NEED him now. I'm one of the folks here who have supported him from the beginning, mainly because of this very issue. We had an embarrassment of riches with all of our candidates, but I really thought a known, steady hand is what we needed in the world's eyes.

Unfortunately, although I think he will be an awesome start in repairing our alliances, it will take a long time, perhaps even generations, to totally regain our allies' confidence. We've proven that no matter how smart, decent, honest, and honorable our current president may be, we're never more than 4 years away from putting a lunatic in charge.

And yeah, in my lifetime, the last decent Republican president was Eisenhower. If Ford hadn't established the precendent of pardoning criminals he may have been in the running.
