Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was the first potential running mate known to have had a meeting with former Vice President Joe Biden, the Associated Press reported Friday evening.
Whitmer is reportedly one of the leading candidates to join presumptive Democratic Party nominee Bidens ticket.
Other potential running mates include Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), former National Security Advisor Susan Rice, Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Rep. Val Demmings (D-FL), Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-MN).

Please, no! We need her here in Michigan to clean up the mess wrought by 8 years of Rick "The Dictator" Snyder.
Sincerely,
A Selfish Michigander

(11,257 posts)Why not handle everything by Zoom call?? It's safer and less traceable.
I was listening to a podcast about the process, and when Obama and Kerry were choosing a running mate they would meet in random places so that the press didn't know who the candidates were meeting with.
This may be a smoke screen.

(3,635 posts)of a woman of color - of which there are several strong choices - there will be major blowblack from PoC who have long thought the choice would be a woman of color, especially in this moment.
Older PoC supported Biden for pragmatic reasons as well as loyalty to Obama. Middle aged and younger PoC have never really cared for Biden and if he fails to put a WoC on the ticket (which he's long implied that he would) it's not going to be pretty, especially on social media.

(63,221 posts)I really like her, but it would not be a good move for him to choose a white woman as a running mate.

(13,050 posts)I've always felt Joe needs to pick a WoC for many reasons, the most important being it raises the level of visibility of WoC and his gratitude to the AA community for saving his campaign. Let's face it, without Black Americans reviving Joe's win in SC he would not be our candidate right now. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Black Americans for this fact alone.
