If I recall correctly, there was a significant change in how and to whom these numbers were being officially reported to.
Do we have any real confidence in these numbers? If Trump or his flunkies are controlling these numbers, should we believe any downturn in the numbers?

(135,844 posts)Hospitals have been ordered to bypass the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and send all patient information to a central database in Washington, raising questions about transparency.
The new instructions were posted recently in a little-noticed document on the Department of Health and Human Services website. From now on, the department not the C.D.C. will collect daily reports about the patients that each hospital is treating, the number of available beds and ventilators, and other information vital to tracking the pandemic.
Officials say the change will streamline data gathering and assist the White House coronavirus task force in allocating scarce supplies like personal protective gear and remdesivir, the first drug shown to be effective against the virus. But the Health and Human Services database that will receive new information is not open to the public, which could affect the work of scores of researchers, modelers and health officials who rely on C.D.C. data to make projections and crucial decisions.
Historically, C.D.C. has been the place where public health data has been sent, and this raises questions about not just access for researchers but access for reporters, access for the public to try to better understand what is happening with the outbreak," said Jen Kates, the director of global health and H.I.V. policy with the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation.

(12,712 posts)I am now at the point that anything and everything that comes out of the Orange Anus, the White House, and any government agencies that he has an influence on, including his agency appointments, aka, The Decepticon Destructor-bots, (Carson, DeVoss, etc.) is extremely suspect.
I assume all of that information to be tainted, distorted and deceptive. Why? Well, it is all to serve Predator Grump's political, tyrannical ambitions and has no other purpose but to manipulate us.
Basically, my bullshit alarm needs new batteries since it goes off constantly.
That's called NO FAITH! The rest of the country should follow suite and make it clear we don't buy the delusional story that is Tramp's fantasy as our narrative anymore. Enough!

They will give us misleading information to show things are getting better when the only purpose for the fake numbers is to get Trump elected. People need to know that, and I hope the media doesn't just blindly report numbers.

(14,855 posts)... across SEVERAL states recently have helped to lower new cases.
No thanks to Trump, of course.
Deaths will surely remain high for awhile.
Edit: With several schools reopening, we'll then take two steps back!

(10,126 posts)for the last few years would be revealing.
That's how they've figured out Swine flu or H1N1 deaths.
They derive the bump in deaths over the projected rates as the deaths caused by the flu.
That would be a good stat to counter the October surprise.
I'll bet the real number of deaths is way higher than the 160,000+ we've been advised of.
That sticker shock would get headlines all over the country. And Trump can't blame that on Biden.

(65,061 posts)There are several aggregators, (Johns-Hopkins, Worldometer, IHME, NIH, et al) that get data directly from county departments of health, nationwide.
They do not get them from CDC, HHS, or from the states.
They get them the same time the governments get them.
Those data are not filtered.

Some of the sites are trickier to navigate to that info, than others. But, those I've listed by name, I've read that on their sites.
BTW: know who gets data directly from doctors & hospitals? The insurance industry clearing house.
They're not about to pay off 250,000 life insurance policies with COVID as cause of death, or 5 million health claims wit that diagnosis, and have PINO and his minions claim 175,000 & 4 million.
They'd have every reason to scream, because their annual reports will have to list the expenditures outside the actuarial models. They're public companies. They can't hide it.
So, attempts to fudge the numbers are met with resistance on multiple fronts.
