Trump is destroying the U.S. postal service.

Trump's latest appointment to head the Postal Service is some sycophant who (I think) was some kind of real estate wheeler dealer, who has no clue of the importance of mail to the well being of our society, our economy and our country. He's slowing everything down in an attempt to slow down (or stop?) mail in ballots during the upcoming election.

Our mail is intentionally being slowed to a snails pace. In some cases, it's inconsequential. In the case of receiving and paying bills, it's unnerving, and in many cases, costly. It seems that the Trump mob has discovered yet another way to fuck and destroy America.

One of my neighbors is going completely bugshit over the fact that bills she's payed have arrived late and, as a result she's being charged interest. (One of the bills she paid never arrived and she's getting emails and phone calls about it.)

I've been making a habit to pay my bills as soon as they're received and dropping them off at a nearby post office. I haven't personally run into any snags so far, but I've noticed that my credit card bill is now arriving a week later than it normally does.

I don't know if any of this is happening where you live, but I'd like to hear from you about it.

1. Bills? That like ... come in the mail?

And then you also pay them ... via the mail? Like with 'checks' or the like, and stamps?

I vaguely remember that process ... so glad I don't do it anymore

But just because I don't pay bills by mail doesn't mean I'm not deeply concerned with what Trump is trying to pull here. I get other things in the mail all the time. So far it's seemed to be running fairly smoothly in my area.

5. Yep. Some of us trust the USPS more than banks

My bank has screwed up more than once on bills I pay through automatic checking. And getting it straightened out was a nightmare.

Seems that banks perfected the art of fucking us during the 20th century and are now enhancing their scams in the 21st century. I even got a letter from them urging me to open a savings account to which they would "contribute." Seems their way of "contributing" was to move a dollar from my checking acct to my "savings acct," after I attained x amount of points on the credit card they issued me. So they're "contributing" my own money to me??? This is a scam that only Louis Gomert would have fallen for.

6. Tens of millions still use the traditional method

I am fully aware of that reality whenever someone mocks a practice as, "nobody does that anymore."

That's what happens in a country of 330 million. One-percent of nobody is 3 million.

Anyway, my mail service did not change until this week. Now it is coming every other day. Beyond disgraceful.

Notice it is done plenty early enough to create a full backlog by November. There will be ballots mailed 7 or 10 days early that won't arrive in time. Trump is just figuring out how far he can take the Roy Cohn tactics. That's why a second term is even scarier than we realize.

7. Who is it that pays the vendor based on the check you wrote?

Isn't it ... your bank?

I've never used automated checking so I won't comment but I've set up auto-pay for all my bills via the website of the people I have to pay each month (The City, Utility Company, Cable Company, Sprint, Auto Finance, Insurance, Mortgage Company, HOA, Credit Cards) and they all run without a single hitch every single month, and I never even think about 'paying my bills' (other than the money being there of course).

It just happens, like clockwork.

I absolutely love it!

This is all not to imply that I do not HIGHLY VALUE the USPS for a whole host of other reasons

3. Prescription medication refills are largely shipped via

USPS. Any delay or lost shipment will endanger lives. I'm one of the millions of patients across the country who rely on the mail to deliver my medical supplies and drugs.

Up until now I've never had a single problem in getting my prescriptions on time. The USPS is 100% reliable and will always make their deliveries, even at their own hardship in bad weather or through transportation issues.

I wouldn't risk my life on some scatter shot delivery service run by a grifter like Trump and his gang of money grubbing cronies.

4. I had great difficulty receiving a registered certified packet from overseas
Fri Aug 7, 2020, 02:19 PM

It was in New York for a long time with no status to go with the tracking #.

After making numerous calls and filing an inquiry, the next day it was delivered. However, I was supposed to sign for it. I found it in my rural delivery box and the tracking # said that I signed for it (not the truth -- no one signed for it!).

I recently mailed my passport for renewal as it is expired. I was prepared for the worst!

I did not mail it certified because I wanted to avoid going out. So two stamps and in the box it went!

Yesterday I checked my bank account and the check for $110 I wrote to renew it has been cashed!

I was pleasantly surprised after what I went through with the registered certified letter that was stuck in New York for weeks.

I think we got a big mess on our hands and this new head of the post office sounds like he is not the right person for the job TO SAY THE LEAST.

Good luck USPS and I do mean it!
