FLIPPABE: Ken White for KS-HD79

A graduate of Leadership Wichita, an avid arts patron, and a professional musician, White is the founding partner at Howerton+White in downtown Wichita. A resident of Kansas since 1997, White and his wife Robin Macy are stewards of the 110-year-old Bartlett Arboretum, a regional treasure that is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Former 79th District, six-term Congressman, Ed Trimmer endorses White: “Ken will make an outstanding legislator. He is intelligent, rational, thoughtful and he sincerely cares about people more than party politics.”

White has decided to set his sights on community service and representing the interests of small businesses and rural Kansans at the state level. “As a small business owner, and steward of the Bartlett Arboretum, I’ve learned invaluable lessons about the critical importance of hard work and cooperation.”

He started his professional life as a national recording and touring musician, making many appearances at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival before deciding to settle in Kansas. He fell in love with the music community he found here and started working in web development. For the last eighteen years, he has been a principal owner of Howerton+White, a Wichita-based marketing and advertising firm with regional clients across the state.

“I love the small town life where everybody knows your name and you can run a tab at the hardware store. In my second career as a small business owner, I believe every employee represents a family. Every decision I make carries responsibility for more than myself.”

White is loyal, resourceful, a problem-solver, and compassionate.

“I understand cause and effect relationships, which is important for how history is shaped over the long term. Democracy is about compromise for the greater good and the ability to achieve things by working together.

“I’m especially concerned that the polarization of politics has created a culture that values ‘winning’ over the concerns of Kansans. As a result, the best interests of the great majority of people are not being represented.

“COVID-19 continues to put an unprecedented strain on our state and national economies. I believe I can be part of the solution, because I can listen, learn and meet in the middle. I especially want to be a voice for lower- and middle-class families, who are all being overlooked right now.”

White recognizes that our tax structure no longer reflects the great and growing disparity in family incomes. His focus will be taxes and jobs - two key issues that should be the highest priorities for the Legislature to address.

“Currently I have opponents on the far left and far right. I represent the middle ground. The Heartland of Kansas.”
