The first nation is dying in front of our eyes. It is like when we Brits gave them blankets soaked in scarlet fever in a genocide when the far right of England first rocked up and stole their lands. They were fucking nasty bastards - so puritan that fucking Cromwell was not puritan enough and they had to go to the new colony to be far right religious nuts. Seems like they are doing the same thing now. The descendants of the genocide will decide that the necessary health interventions to save the first nation, seems like that they are doing a death cult shitting job of it.

(111,261 posts)and have managed to slow transmission a great deal.
They were hit harder than anyone else in April and May. Since then, they have managed to turn it around.
This is where they are now: https://www.kob.com/albuquerque-news/navajo-nation-reports-36-new-covid-19-cases-1-additional-death/5816259/
The tribe has worked very, very hard to survive this. They have done a wonderful job.

Slowing it to zero is just not going to happen right now, not in 'Murka. They have done an amazing job, and as much as I like Reich, he needed to do a little more recent reading on this one.
(Three weeks ago, they had it to fewer than 5 a day, so I have to wonder if vacationers are bringing it in now)

I live in New Mexico. Everyday, the local TV station (KOAT) reports COVID 19 data for the state, including the Navajo Nation by itself. The Nation did a good job in taming the virus.

(111,261 posts)Closing Gallup for a couple of weeks also helped, and it was at the mayor's request.
New cases statewide have been in the 100-300 range daily but it's no longer concentrated in San Juan and McKinley Counties.
People are even being pretty good about masks, amazing considering how brutal this summer has been.

(2,345 posts)It is so easy. It is easier than taking a screenshot, cropping, hosting, and then passing the information.
I just don't understand why people are posting pictures of tweets without including a link to the tweet.
Why do that?

(1,078 posts)So many people are bored, want to get out, see things they've never seen. One of those places they go to is the Grand Canyon, right in the middle of Navajo country. Go to a gas station or one of the few restaurants and you're potentially infecting the Navajo. They have multi-generations living together and many have no running water so the "wash your hands" mantra doesn't work.
Please stay away from the Southwest.
