People will step in where our political representatives fail us.

We have had enough of terrible police training, police violence, and police impunity. Now get the police spending under control and start to punish the wrong-doers and their leadership with real consequences.

in many communities - not just AA. Many poor and lower middle-class whites are also abused by cops.

There was major traffic stop, many cops. Loudspeaker, "Show your hands, get out of the car one at a time. Back towards us, etc." The cops had some kinds of weapons drawn. Not guns. I want to say tazers. I was far away and couldn't tell. Just from context, the car and people were wanted. Maybe stolen, maybe ran, maybe drugs. No idea. But it wasn't a pull over for speeding or failing to signal, that's for sure.

The suspects were Latino and black. I busted out my phone and captured the whole thing. I looked around. Ten other people, mostly white, also had their phones out.

This was a very liberal part of the Bay Area, and the cops absolutely knew they had a bunch of rapt liberals staring them down.

The suspects were cuffed and loaded into the car without incident. Like I said, I have no idea why they were chased down, but there were a loooot of cops who showed up instantly. We heard a lot of sirens just before, so something was going down.

But I've noticed, more and more, people will stop and watch cop/civilian interactions with their hands hovering over their phones likes it's a quickdraw wild west. If I'm walking down the street and see a cop pull someone over, I stop and watch.

It's good awareness is increasing with this sort of thing. The protests are definitely reaching people.

First, if a traffic stop or arrest happens without incident there are witnesses to that. If a suspect starts something then, with a lot of phones capturing the action, there will be evidence as to what happened. It seems that pretty much the only people who will be opposed to this is dirty cops and their enablers.

I love it! A few months ago a white woman posted here on DU that she could understand why the Central Park White Woman would be frightened of the Birder black man. As a white woman, that pissed me off and I replied, hoping to educate.

And now, here's this! YES!!! lets use our privilege for Social Justice!

No longer do we lock our doors and clutch our purses when a black man walks by. We KNOW better! DON'T fear black or brown men. Be street smart always, but also know your privilege and look out for injustice, speak up, record, form a human chain of mom's, of women.... No justice, no peace!
