(5,528 posts)College age kids are risk takers. Spend 15 minutes on Youtube and you will see all kinds of videos about them doing stupid dangerous shit.
Of course this is one of the reasons that colleges will have challenges.
I have been tracking college policies and plans because my daughter is starting in a few weeks. Purdue actually has a pretty serious approach to this as do most of the big institutions. It could all crumble and get shut down but they are doing everything they can to make it work.

(6,477 posts)That some studies have found large numbers of cardiac or other effects remaining after a few weeks or months is not any sort of definitive proof of long-term health effects.
We should be clear-eyed and honest about where the science is.

(posing this without trying to seem argumentative)
(and I agree that we should be clear about what we know and don't know)

(6,477 posts)We don't have anything that would approximate proof about persistence.
We can make estimates, and hypothesize, but we're too early in this to have anything like demonstrable widespread long-term effects.

(9,263 posts)evidence to date points to longterm health issues in many of those who recover from COVID, kids even appear to have some severe ones. But, hey lets wait 10 years to say this

(24,412 posts)The death part is, of course, the most important potential consequence but being physically disabled in other ways for the rest of your life shouldn't be overlooked. Plus, since it's a brand new virus, there's limited knowledge of how it works (can you get it again?) and what all of the potential lifelong consequences can be. We need to focus on trying to contain the spread. But we'll never be able to do that if we just return to "normal" and live like what we're dealing with is no worse than the common cold or flu.

But plenty of us here are doing what we can to fight it.

It truly takes an uncommon mind to think of this nonsense.
