Sure he's an undercover cop pretending to be a protestor, but that's about it. How is the undercover cop "instigating chaos"? When did he "throw rocks and shit"?

Looks to me like the undercover cop is trying to de-escalate a confrontational situation with a "citizen journalist" who is egging him on for a reaction.

Making the leap that he's there to "incite a riot" strains credulity.

“Deescalate”? Where’s that in the video when he’s holding an empty bottle?

What is the protestor journalist's point? That an on-duty undercover cop is there with a bottle to start a riot? Or that an off-duty cop is there with a bottle to start a riot and he also brought his police radio?

I don't know why he has a bottle or where it came from. Neither does anyone else watching this video. He could have picked it up off the sidewalk for all we know.

The only confrontational party in this video is the guy talking and filming.

11. There is no violence. Suppose it were a legitimate protestor holding a bottle in broad daylight,

and a cop came up and characterized him as violent and accused him of being there to incite a riot and instigate chaos, what would the reaction be?

on potentiality alone. The cop lied, which instantly shoots down his credibility, and given the myriad number of false flags ops by cops and other assorted RW scum to frame up the protesters as violent, he certain does not get a benefit of the doubt from me at all.

Wow. That's an interesting standard, especially when someone is being accused of instigating chaos and inciting a riot. Should it be applied universally?

It's the protester journalist who wasn't honest when he wrote his clickbait headline. And it's he who is best characterized as a provacateur based on his actions rather than potentiality.

provocateur, provocator, or provoker
-a person who deliberately behaves controversially in order to provoke argument or other strong reactions

Last week here in NYC, we got breathless reports on twitter of Trump's feds kidnapping a protestor off a street in Chelsea in broad daylight with the help and protection of the NYPD.

Actually, it was the NYPD Warrant Squad with a warrant. That's why the guy who got into the "unmarked van" with the kidnapping victim was wearing a bright orange shirt that said "WARRANT SQUAD" in big letters across the back.

We also heard that a plainclothes cop pointed his gun at people to keep them away from the van. Actually, his gun was holstered, and he had his hand on the holster to secure the weapon as he yelled at people to keep back. That's textbook NYPD standard procedure.

Sorry, but narratives like "he's a police officer pretending to be a violent white protester" based on suppositions of "potentiality" aren't helpful. They play right into Trump's hands.
