i mean, I am an American too. But if you just step back and look at the headlines..I think our great grandchildren are going to read the history books and think "WTF!???"
We're so impatient and selfish as a country that despite coronavirus infection and death rates climbing in at least 30 states, MLB is trying to have games which are then cancelled/postponed due to player infections--people are going to Disney World, kids are becoming mass spreaders at summer camps.
and we have a president who along with his political henchmen are dismissing expert doctors like Fauci, Birx, and others in admin saying we need to ramp up our vigilance.
The president spouts hydroxyxhloraquine bullshit on a daily basis despite evidence disproving his claims.
it actually hurts my head to think about how stupid and ineffective our nation has become under Trump.

I am teetering toward hatred of what my country has become in my 50 years as an American.

The American people are very impatient people. The virus thing has gone on too long & they're tired of it, so they ignore it. The grandchildren who actually read about this era will see us for what we are.

(19,984 posts)for bad behavior, it's likely to continue.
Seat belts, speed limits, reckless driving, running stop lights, etc., all have penalties for noncompliance with the laws.
Maybe there needs to be some kind of mask law that expires in six months if not renewed. That might be enough to convince some idiots that this is not some "big gubment" plot to usurp their "rights" but rather a way to buy some time and save lives until it is known if and when a vaccine can be developed and widely distributed.
Anderson Cooper had an ER doctor in Berkeley on earlier who said "our rights are going to kill us."
